The Leer on my 3rd gen is pretty nice (not nice enough justify the price thats for sure, but none of them really are) but its nice. Also, the paint match on my Leer is horrendous. Im a believer that Snugtop makes the best tops. I had one on my Ram 2500 that I beat the absolute shit out of. They have lots of pictures on their own website of their toppers on trucks that are jumping, crawling, offroad with loads on top etc. They might not actually be any better but they market themselves more towards the aggressive user as opposed to the guy that just wants his bed covered.

I think Leer makes the best looking caps. I’ve owned 3 Leers over the past 15 years on different trucks. Each has fit well, looked good, and held up well with canoes, kayaks, lumber, etc on the roof on a regular basis. My son has a Ranch on his 2013 Reg Cab 4x4. Not as stylish as a Leer but extremely solid build and 30% less expensive.

I obviously wouldn’t ask what I paid new but I’d burn it before I gave it up for 1/6th the price. Realistically 3/4 or 70-80% is completely fair asking price and a good deal. Anything lower and it’s a hellava deal.

Make sure you consider the quality of the dealer as well as the quality of the cap.

And be aware that MGM is a notoriously hard color to match exactly so don't be upset if it's not perfect because it probably won't be.

They are all about the same when talking fiberglass tops. Good dealer if you can get one is great.

    Windoors are quite awesome.

I have an ARE. It's fine. I don't think there is a clear advantage when it comes to caps. I'd buy whatever you think looks the best or can get the best deal on.

I had a LEER on my last Tacoma and the color match was perfect, I couldn’t believe it. Quality was great in every way. Only one I’ve ever owned so not sure how they compare.

Considering a topper for my new Sport AC.

Had a Leer on my red 2005 Tundra. Good color match. Looked good. Mostly liked it... but I thought the hardware was a bit cheesy. Had to develop special techniques to use the lock. The taillight burned out and I couldn't just replace it myself. Had to take it to the Leer dealer, who had done a marginal on the install... so the taillight never got fixed.

Snugtop somehow has the reputation for building the best toppers?? I'm currently inclined to find out for myself.

Leer seems to be pretty popular on Tacomaworld.com.

I've had 2 Leers over the years and both held up great and didn't leak. One was on a truck for 10+ years and the other was on my Tacoma for 8+ years.

Sold both (had Yakima racks) for $1000 each.

Having a good local dealer is key...mine was/is great.

    Leer gets my vote.

    No experience with other brands.

They're all the same. Get the one you like the best, with the options you want. And keep your expectations low. Every cap I've ever had has eventually developed a leak somewhere...

I tend to be alittle different from the main pack so I didn't color match but I've had 2 leers. The newest being 3 months old and I'm pretty damn happy with it. MGM truck midnight metallic topper

20200215_183720.jpg I wanted a mid-rise to fit bikes inside, and for extra room when sleeping in back. I like the lines on the snugtop hi-liner. Good dealer in Chicago.

The Snugtop Cab High that I bought for my Tacoma is crap. The first one was so bad that I spent a lot of time convincing Snugtop and my dealer (who was useless) into installing another cap. This one is marginally less suck then the first one. It's the third Snugtop that I've bought new and the quality is subpar compared to the previous Snugtops that I've owned.

I'm sorry to hear that. Mine has been pretty solid so far. The dealer replaced the seals on the windoors cause original ones leaked. It took a lot of work to seal the bed before topper install, though.

From what I have read is that all have had issues but Leer seems to be the one with the least amount. Snugtop is also very hard to find in the east coast with no dealer east of the Mississippi river.

    2. Leer
    3. ARE

I've had all 3 and wish I could get another SnugTop on the East coast

The SnugTop had better fit & finish in my opinion to include window latches and hinges

That's how my brain initially read it. Kind of upset this isn't that thread.

    Had to share.
