Tan rack is my removable RTT. The tube ends just need the plug caps.

Anybody has a picture of where the spare goes under the truck? Need to see the brackets and mounting space. Don't want to drop the spare just to take a picture...
Looking for a way NOT to have the tire pressed against the brackets (dent marks) maybe find a cylinder as a spacer to keep it down?

Also this would be so easy to make...1.5" tube with a plate in between, bolted to the 4 bolts in the bed, a riser to mount the tire on and powder coated.

No, bumper with swingarm and goodies probably weights 250 lbs, stock is 90, so plus 160, plus the cap and rack at about 200 and drawers at about 150. overall 500 lbs in the back, truck still drives great, doesn't hunt more than usual and itll still get up and go, at least for a truck

Love what Honda did with the Ridgeline. Spare tire and lockable cooler/trunk and 2 way swing out Tailgate!

With the swingout bumper, do you have to lock it in the "out" position if you're hauling stuff with your tailgate down?

He also fabbed up something that mounts to the bedrail similar to Wilco’s. If anyone is interested, hit him up. He also has pics on his instagram @welds_taco

I have used both styles that Avid Offroad offers and loved them both. I like the one that sits low because I can still see through the back window just fine but ended up keeping the style that uses bed bars and basket for more bed space. It completely blocks the rear view though.

I kind of narrowed it down to this spare bracket (Jeep), looks like a solid unit for in-bed mount.

I plan to use a wheel spacer on top of the bracket for strength (like the ones used to change the off-set on the wheels), need to find one that converts from Jeep to taco. Bottom of the spacer will be attached to the 3 Jeep bolts and the top to the taco wheel.

I really like that first one, seems like you can still put small things under it. Kinda pricey though.

What trim is your truck? SR? Off road? Pro? All you need is a sport hood to cover all trim models.

Sr5. Bedside decals were designed early on. Once I wrap the truck those will be switched out

    My solution is as follows.

$35 heavy duty bottle jack from Home Depot (my dedicated off road jack)
$20 worth of added d rings to locations where I need them.
$70 SDHQ y strap to firmly strap the tire to the jack and the D rings in the bed. Its rock solid and inexpensive and can be removed in minutes when I need to use my bed for large items.

There are several reasons I don’t want to keep my oversized spare under the bed. This was my perfect inexpensive and sturdy solution.

And here’s a side view. The tire is pushed up against the front of the bed but the weight of the wheel/tire is resting on the padded head of my behavior duty bottle jack. It’s also easy to lock up this setup with a cable lock or even a U lock through an added D ring underneath the whole setup, locking both the wheel, jack AND even my $70 Y-strap to the bed. I am so happy with this setup and I’ll give it a proper shakedown next time I go wheeling soon. Feel free to ask any questions. It was quite easy! Pictured below is the jack (which works amazing, and is really stable, so much better than a Hi lift).

Gotta look at the cost of things sure the metal is cheap. But when you figure up cost of running the plasma table or laser cnc machine. The welders the gas for the welders the time to bend and weld everything up the powder coating the hardware and everything else. It cost money to make everything

If you can fab everything up good but for the people that don’t have the tools it’s cheaper to buy then to accumulate the tools to make that item.

Truth! Between a decent welder, plasma cutter, tube bender, notcher, drill press, welding table, etc... It's easy to get 10k into just the tools above not to mention the tens of thousands of dollars for tools I didn't mention. It takes a ton of money in equipment to make a bumper or rock sliders. Then figure the time it takes too. If a customer buys rock sliders for $650, the DOM tubing that everyone likes is gonna run close to $175, then the cost to run the equipment like Tim mentioned above, then overhead and rent for a shop... Taxes... I would be surprised if a shop keeps $150 of that. Then figure it takes 4 hours to make sliders from start to finish (if you're fast and have a good flow), the fabricator makes about $33/hr. That kinds sucks for the experience and cost to make the stuff.
