So my Triangle with an exclamation point light came on yesterday and I have the busiest next two weeks so I don't have time to take it in. The book says it means there is a message and to view, scroll to the messages tab on the interactive display in the instrument cluster. But when I do that there are no messages, even tried when stopped since you have to do that to do a lot of other things on the head unit LOL (Hate this feature).

I called the dealer and talked to somebody in service but they did not sound like they new much. I am due for my first 5000 mile service in a few hundred miles and I believe it came on shortly after hitting 4500 miles. That is what the service department (not so confident) person over the telephone said when I mentioned it.

Has anyone else had an experience like this?

One can never have too many light bars.
Could be a glitch. Try disconnecting and reconnecting the battery and see if that resets it.

Did it happen when you parked and left your sunroof open?

Also, could be maintenance minder, that should come on at 4500.

Probably just a maintenance reminder. Check the head unit in settings for maintenance and see if there was a reminder set up in it.

It's the maintenance reminder. It goes on at 4500. Watch the screen at startup. It will say maintenance soon for a couple seconds.

YES, this is a maintenance reminder that comes on. Happened to me on a road trip in the middle of nowhere. I pulled out the manual and found it.

MIne did the exact same thing as yours came on at 4500 miles which I am sure is a reminder I am within 500 miles of needing servicing. In my previous tacoma it did the same thing but the light would flash when it was started then go out and would only stay on when I exceeded the maintenance milage.

Definitely the maintenance reminder. This just happened to me. You should see a maintenance reminder notification when you start the truck up, but it goes away. Then, if you try to look up the notification in the display there's nothing there. Very annoying to have the warning light for this as I wish they had a dedicated maintenance required light instead. Even though I know what the light is for, there is just something about having the "check engine" type of warning lit up...

Also note, the "maintenance required" notification comes on and stays on at start up until to hit the return arrow button on the steering wheel once you go past 5000 miles.

This and quite a few other things are listed in my topic that is stickied. Had me concerned for a minute until I re-read the manual and realized how many miles were on my truck when it had happened.

Yup, mine just came on for the second time and I actually remembered what it was once I saw that I had no warnings or anything on the center screen. I do think it would be a good idea for Toyota to put something to let you know it's just a maintenance reminder and not something going wrong with the truck in the gauge cluster under the warnings since that's the first place I looked.

I expected it to come on at 9,500 miles but it went before that since it was serviced at 4,937 miles so it lit up at 9,437 (500 miles before hitting 5K more miles).

At 4500 miles it is a "reminder" to get your tires rotated. it will do it for the life of the truck every ~5k according to my dealer. Ask them to show you how to turn it offf after it comes on if you don't want to rotate or do it yourself.

I have a 2016 Trd sport and I am at 9,915 miles and my light it on as well.. I believe it's just a message for Maintenance required soon.. that comes on when I start it up. .

Anybody have brake issues yet...?? I had to get rotars turned at 7,000 miles??? They were warp..

When I took mine in for the dealership first service I paid them to service the calipers. As remove and lube, which was reported back that the factory used like zero on it and a very good thing I did it.

So make sure you guys get that done. My Toyota tech buddy said its a must do on all their trucks because for some reason they don't do it well enough at the factory, likely why.
