None yet. Just got truck, looking for advice.
I’m not sure this is in the right place. I have a 2021 Tacoma TRD 4x4 double cab. I use my truck in everyday business as an agricultural consultant, and to scout fields. I take my French Bulldog with me every day. There are times that I need to leave her in the truck for more than an hour, and having the air conditioner running is imperative. But the pollution control or whatever cuts the engine off after a period of time. Is there any way to bypass this control? My old truck, a Silverado, would keep running if I put it in neutral with the emergency brake on. This truck blows an annoying alarm if I try to do that. I’m about to where
I need to trade trucks because of this problem. Could a custom tuner stop it?

I had no idea the new Tacoma does this.

Thankfully that wasn’t the case for my 07, because I literally had to use my trucks head lights to install the water line for our house. I sure wasn’t paying another days rental on the ditch witch. And I had to get it done.

■Auto power off function If the vehicle is left in ACCESSORY mode for more than 20 minutes or IGNITION ON mode (the engine is not running) for more than an hour with the shift lever in P, the engine switch will automatically turn off. However, this function cannot entirely prevent battery discharge. Do not leave the vehicle with the engine switch in ACCESSORY or IGNITION ON mode for long periods of time when the engine is not running.

■Automatic engine shut off feature (except for New Caledonia)

●The vehicle is equipped with a feature that automatically shuts off the engine when the shift lever is in P with the engine running for an extended period. ●The engine will automatically shut off after approximately 1 hour if it has been left running while the shift lever is in P. ●The timer for the automatic engine shut off feature will reset if the brake pedal is depressed or if the shift lever is in a position other than P.
After the vehicle is parked, if the door is locked with the door lock switch (P. 121) from the inside or the mechanical key (P. 522) from the outside, the automatic engine shut off feature will be disabled. The timer for the automatic engine shut off feature will be re-enabled if the driver’s door is opened. ■Electronic key

Could leave the keys in the truck but if thats not an option you can pull the plug for the alarm speaker, however I haven’t tested it in neutral idling.

So lock it with the physical key hidden in the fob.

Thanks for the advice. I’ve tried it with the truck in park, locking it with the driver’s door key and the warning horn goes off. Same thing if the tranny is in neutral and the emergency brake applied. The one thing not tried is to leave the key fob in the truck and lock with the emergency key. I’ll try that one. Where would the breaker for the safety horn be located? I want to try pulling the fuse but not sure what else would affect like the front-end crash alert.

Perhaps a remote start module and a 15 minute timer on your watch?

I like the remote starter idea. I’m going to look into that. I knew that Tacoma drivers are the smartest drivers on the road and I would get the right answer! Ya’ll is da best!

For what it’s worth, I have the N2 Designs and it works flawlessly. I don’t use it THAT often, but it works every time and costs me like $30/yr.

I’m willing to test this up to 30 minutes I suppose.

Sorry, I got busy and didn’t check back in. I don’t have factory remote start, so I’m talking about an aftermarket part. I’ll look into the N2 Design, hopefully they can answer the question. Thanks for a good lead.

I'm also looking to install the N2 Design remote start. When you use it, does it also automatically turn on the fan inside the truck to regulate the temperature inside?

Now I wonder. I sometimes do a lightbulb check by putting a c-clamp on my trailer controller. I'm curious to see what would happen if someone were to hold the trailer brake switch for an hour (which does engage the truck's brake lights); would that prevent the shutdown timer?

I have an ‘18 without the dual climate control. Mine’s old school. If the newer units have automated temp control, I expect it would operate just as if you had turned the key yourself.

For me, if I think I’m going to use the remote start, I said the temperature controls so that they behave the way I want them to when I’m going to remote start. For example, if I’m going to park outside and it’s going to be 90+ when I remote, I preset the controls to AC recirculate and fan at 1/2-2/3 speed.

    Hope that helps.
