I just did my suspension and all ball joints. Couldn't feel play in the tie rods so I left them as is. When I went to get my alignment today the shop told me they couldn't do it because my L inner tie rod was 'too loose'. Ran to the store and threw in some new MOOG inners (actually 555's in a MOOG box). Thing is, I can't feel ANY play in either of the tie rod ends I replaced. They're not stiff like a brand new one, the ball rotates pretty easily in the socket but there's no looseness or play that I can feel. Starting to think they were just trying to get an extra hundred and fifty bucks out of me at the tire shop but I don't know for sure. Could it be bad even though I can't feel it or would it be something obvious once you've got it pulled off the truck?

If they're bad they should flop around in the socket. Seeing in the picture that it's holding itself up without just plopping straight down, I'd say you're right. They're probably just trying to squeeze some money out of you.
