Hey guys, I’m looking to get some ideas about running air conditioning into my RTT. I have looked around but have not found anything that just jumps out as the “best” method. If you have experience using a certain method, please share with me and let me know how it works and what you like/dislike about it!

The method that has my attention so far includes some sort of AC unit with dryer hose ran into the vent of my Smittybilt Overlander Gen 2. This would be powered by a 2000 watt generator similar to Honda’s super quiet one.

Thanks guys, have a blessed day!

There are several people on ExPo who have done this; I can't say where I remember seeing the threads on them but I'd say check the camping and RTT forums. Most did what you're talking about with an inexpensive window unit; block off the front vents, fashioned some duct work to attach a flexible hose to and ran it up to the tent. On one of the cleaner installs I recall the guy installed louvered vents in the floor of the tent and ran A/C in the summer and one of those Chinese heaters in the winter. The upright A/C units often have vents that would be easier to connect ducting to but they're also more expensive.

I'd think the biggest issue would be protecting the unit in transit so that it didn't get beat up or the condenser fins damaged.

I saw someone buy a portable unit from Wally world for 100 bucks on clearance, and they just closed their tent zipper around the exhaust duct. It did a pretty decent job.

Looks like regular price for one nowadays is in the 300 range.

Just take care to avoid the mini swamp boxes (evaporative). You do not want that in a tent, trust me.

Exterior: Diode Dynamic LEDs w/ Baja squadron fogs, Prinsu roof rack, 265 Nitto Ridge Grapplers, Apex Sliders, CBI Aluminum Overland Bed Rack, Total Chaos Bed Stiffeners. Interior: Diode Dynamic LED Interior lights. Accessories: Mountain Hatch Tailgate Insert, Roofnest Condor RTT (stays on 24/7), RotoPax extra gas container, Maxtrax, Waterport hose, bottle opener Suspension: Front Bilstein 6112 (set 6/5) 600lbs springs, SPC UCAs. Rear Bilstein 5160 and Icon RXT Leaf springs.
Im planning on getting a used 5000btu Wall A/C throwing in on the roof rack and running it into the tent window use my jackery to power it. Only need it to cool off to sleep in, TX Summer camping is real hot plain and simple. My Other Idea Was running a insulated hose from the Car Ac through the back window and sun roof into the tent window. Similar to those moms using the a/c hose for kids in the back seat. Use the remote start to turn truck on and off to cool tent down before bed.
