Ideal lift height with 32s?

    **Question:**
What lift size should I choose for running 32" tires, providing additional clearance without making the tires look out of place?

    **Details:**

    **Current Issue:**
    - Front passenger shock making a popping noise (needs service or replacement).

    **Research & Considerations:**
    - Most lift kits start at 2.5" and average around 3-3.5".
    - Medium load vehicle with metal tonneau, rack, skids, and sliders.
    - Planning to add off-road bumpers, winch, and cab rack in the next year or two.
    - Some 2" kits available, but typically for stock loads only.
    - Interested in Iron Man Stage 2 Foamcell Pro lift (approximately 2.5"), but concerned it may be too high for 32" tires.
    - I found that 33"s and above became a bit of a rabbit hole, as I'd want different wheels, ideally regearing, and extensive modifications like cab mount chop and heavy trimming. Skinny tires while also an option look a bit odd to me with the width of the truck.

    **Current Setup:**
    - Stock TRD Off-Road Suspension
    - Method 16x8 0 offset wheels
    - 265/70/16 tires (only driven about 3000 miles, planning to upgrade to 32s)
    - RCI Steel Sliders
    - Aluminum Skids: Lower A-arm, engine, trans, transfer case
    - Steel Skids: Rear shock mount, differential

    **Other Load:**
    - Sliding metal tonneau cover
    - Yakima Overhaul bed rack

    **Looking for Recommendations:**
    - Optimal lift size for additional clearance without making 32" tires look out of place.
    - Should I just go with Bilstein 5100s and Add-A-Leaf?
    - Any specific lift kits or brands that suit a medium load vehicle with my current and planned setup?

2" is a solid setup for 32" tires (assuming you mean 275/70/17). Here is my truck.
    • Bilstein 6112 on the 4/5 clips in front w/ Headstrong Offroad 3 Leaf AAL in the back.
    • 17x8 -10 Konig Countersteer X wheels w/ BFG AT K02 275/70/17
    • Load = ARE Topper; Custom Sliders / Steps; RCI Aluminum Skids

Have you considered finding a pair of lightly used OEM takeoffs? No reason to install a lift for 32" tires. These trucks aren't suited to real offroading even when heavily modified so there really isn't a reason to install a lift.

I'm not planning on rock crawling, rather occasionally going to the bog or a logging/jeep trail and would like a bit of extra clearance to avoid scraping against rocks or bottoming out as much with minor climbs and ditches.

It's looking like ~2" might be the sweet spot for 31-32" tires, although the pre-assembled kit options for that amount of lift are fairly limited and expensive. There are a lot more options for 2.5 although I'm hoping to find some photos of 2.5" lift with 31|32 on a third gen without much luck so far.

Stock height shouldn't be an issue for 32''. 275/70/17 fit no issues on stock height.

I've read that 265/75/16 should fit as well, I'm just looking to an extra inch or two of ground clearance without making the vehicle look too wonky and requiring 33+, which then prompts a plethora of other changes.

32" CAN fit at stock height with the right wheel width / offset. In my experience, anything less than a 0 offset on 7" wheels will rub at stock height.

So if you are looking for a more aggressive look w/ lower offest wheels (IMO -10 is the sweet spot on 3rd Gens), and want to go with anything larger than 265/70/17... then you will likely need a leveling kit and remove the front mudflaps. Possibly take a heat gun to the fender liner near the cab mount.

However if you want to use wheels closer to stock widths/offets, 32" tires should fit at stock height without any major issue as long as you remove the mudflaps.

I'm on the 3/4 clips up front (out of 6). 1.25 inch lift.

Which suspension kit are you using?

Lift doesn't create clearance. Wheel/tire width, wheel diameter, wheel offset, alignment, and physically cutting/hammering are the items which can affect clearance. Lifting only changes where along your suspension travel your rubbing happens.
    https://youtu.be/l1tTelhdEiM?si=CXndmwccRmNV8GFb&t=68

Switching from 265/70 to 265/75 gains you 0.5" of ground clearance. Remember that lifting only really lifts the body and doesn't necessarily increase your ground clearance much. Live axle in the rear means that you can only change your rear diff/axle ground clearance by adding larger tires. You can do a 4" lift in the rear and your axle won't change your ground clearance to the axle at all.

A 2" lift is a great middle ground that gives you a good look while also maintaining decent suspension travel.

Small lift, slightly oversized tires, well...
265/75/16 will easily fit with a 0 offset and are approx. 32" tires. I'm running 255/85/16s with 0 offset with only an occasional very minor rub. I could get rid of that rub with a tweak to my alignment...haven't gotten around to it.

As for lift, 2.5 is about as high as you'd want to go from a practicality standpoint.

While true, it will help your departure angle.

    My current considerations are;
    - MT64
    - Iron Man Pro FoamCell

the M64 is substantially more expensive but seems more durable, I'm just waiting to hear back what the minimum lift height on either of those sets are.

265/75R16 with around 2.5" front and 2" rear lift. TRD Pro wheels here are around +13mm offset if I recall, 0 modifications to the truck otherwise needed to fit the tires. The rear previously ran 1" lift on the same tires, and based off the clearance of the front tires at full steering lock and compression I've seen as well as what others have said I believe a 265/75R16 would've fit before lifting too.

Since I regularly am maximizing compression and steering lock, lift height isn't a useful tool for clearing tires up front since the maximum potential for clearance issues aren't at normal ride height, which is all a lift changes.

~32" tires also will work with mud flaps with no issues, when these wear out and I eventually upsize to 33s I'm anticipating having to remove at least the front flaps to avoid scrubbing when turning the front wheels.

That's what I have. Colton at Hotshot Offroad (memario1214) should be able to hook you up with a good price and can assemble front 6112s for you and set proper height before shipping.

I'm running 275/70/17 Falken Wildpeak A/T4W tires on FN f(x) Pro wheels with 0mm offset. Icon RXT leaf packs are set at stage 1 now (as shipped), but getting ready to go to stage 2 since I carry a couple hundred pounds weight in bed and tow a camper sometimes. I didn't notice any tire rub initially after I installed. Had it aligned and soon after noticed some rubbing on full turn with some flex (e.g., entering angled driveway). I thought that suspension had just settled some. I heated and molded rub spot on my fender liner, but still got occasional rub on cab mount. Had alignment done again at a different shop to fix rubbing and they found that the previous alignment shop had f***ed things up pretty bad. Putting everything back in alignment spec fixed rubbing issues. The before 2nd alignment numbers on the printout were ugly (previous shop never gave me a printout).

Will post pictures when I get a chance to take some with new setup.
