Does this seem really high? I was shocked. The serviceman said it's because they are titanium spark plugs which is why it's so expensive. I'm not sure I buy this.

    Thanks for your help!

Only like $100 if you do it yourself, all you need to know how to do is turn a ratchet.

Was that to install as well? or just the parts alone?

It’s probably labor costs and not the spark plugs. Spark plugs are around $25 and you need 6 if you have the v6.

They are pricer than copper plugs, plus an hour or so per side. seems right for dealer work.

Welcome to the forum. $500 is high but the plugs are rather expensive and it does require a lot more labor to change the plugs than back in the good old days when you just pulled off the wires and changed the plugs.

There is a step by step spark plug change Thread if you search the 3rd Gen section, little time consuming but not too difficult.

    Hello.

In the past, folks have been quoted in the mid-$400 range, so with inflation, that seems on target for a dealer quote. But, ridiculously high for the actual job.

As others have said, it is doable. The left side ones can be done without removing the intake plenum. There is just enough room to work. The left rear one needs about 15in of socket extensions. Forceps really help in removing the coil pack harness.

Are you mechanically minded? You can buy iridium plugs at Rock Auto for under $5, or platinum ones for about $2.50. That works out to $25-40 for parts, shipping in. If you are able to do it yourself, I would. There are other things that require more knowledge and specialized tools to do where it makes more sense to go to a dealer.

$13.00 each at the Dealer if you purchase on line. Takes about 1.5 hours to do if you take your time. As noted look for the thread on plug replacement. Need ratchet and extenders (6 and 12), screw driver, torque wrench, anti-seize. Plugs are pre-gapped from dealer. Knockoffs being sold on-line so I'd go the dealer route for parts. Not sure where you are but I'd think anyone on TW that is local to you would lend a hand. I would.

    Nonsense.....find another place for service.

If you have the V-6, it only needs the basic copper plug from Denso. They are <$30 for a set of 6. The inline 4 uses a little more expensive plug. Even so, the set should be <$30. Then roughly 45-60 minutes install time...... Done.

The service person is taking advantage of your gender.

Whats your location? A member will probably help you out for free as it's a pretty easy job. Around $100 in parts will be all you need
