Ok so I'll be towing the tacoma behind an RV, it's 4WD and I'm thinking that is going to be a problem correct? Can I tow on all 4? A tow Dolly? Or will have to be on a trailer all 4 wheels off the ground?

You can do both, but for a dolly you will have to remove the rear driveshaft, I would also remove the front but if it's not in 4wd it won't be spinning

Both are Stock - built correct from the start.
If you’re doing it frequently or prolonged get a trailer. You can back up a car hauler. Not all campgrounds have pull through sites. Towing it will definitely limit your access.

A car trailer would be a lot easier, and easier to resell if you want. Just drive on and off and tie down.

I vote tow dolly, but with the back wheels on the dolly. You can’t tow with the rear wheels down (arguably, unless it’s manual and in neutral)

That would suck to crawl under a vehicle to hook up a driveshaft(s) at every destination. If your RV can pull the weight (usually only class A coaches can), a trailer would be the way to go.

If that doesn't work, Jeep wranglers are dime a dozen.

Crawling under there on vacation is literally the only reason I vote trailer. But again only if the rv can.

It’s only 4 bolts and zip tie or tie the drive shaft to the gas tank crossmember.

I would think it would suck anywhere, but I'm a trailer guy. Flat towing sucks.

Uh, it was stated so not sure how someone missed it. But it's the OPs decision, unbolt or get a trailer.

A good point was made about the towing capacity of your rig. That might make your decision for you. My rv will not handle the additional weight of a trailer. Getting a Tacoma set up to flat tow (AUTO) can get expensive. If you have a 5 speed it is much easier. I have been flat towing for about 10 years and made my decision by first renting a tow dolly on a short trip. Never again. There is alot of information on RV forums about this subject. As on this forum there are many opinions and comments from people who have never actually done it.

I dolly towed my 01 4wd with the transfer case in neutral, trans in park. No big deal. I drove a AAA flatbed for over a decade, I've flat towed just about everything. These guys saying it's easier with a manual, ha.

I dont get it. If the truck can drive the distance on its own I see no reason you need to disconnect the driveshaft just leave it in neutral. If it cant handle being towed on a dolly and the driveshaft spinning then you have bigger problems IMO. The only thing I would say is it will up the mileage on the truck but you can just disconnect the cable/sensor to the speedo on the trans.

I think the issue was from internet research saying that transmissions could possibly incur overheating / damage from spinning but not having the engine keeping things going fast enough. Having experience with technical issues you may be able to shed light on this issue :)

Never seen that to be honest. I have heard that with Auto transmissions but not necessarily with manuals. I suppose it is possible as the output shaft does not spin the counter shaft pulling gear oil up when in neutral. Hmm well i stand corrected. Depending on distance disconnecting the driveshaft at the rear axle probably not a bad idea. In any case as someone else mentioned backing the truck up on the dolly and having the front wheels spin would eliminate that problem.
