I doubt that. That would mean all these people (funds) caught with their pants down have doubled down and shorted more while it was way up during the last week.

If they're banking on the price being driven down, it may not be too far of a stretch. Especially considering they were borrowing more than 100% as it was. Easiest way to make some of that money back.

Again, it's a war of attrition. With the cost so low the hedge funds are going to be able to survive longer as the interest they pay on their shorts will be lower. In the end however they need to buy back the shares eventually before the interest bankrupts them, or the SEC finally gets off their ass and does their job. As the price stays low however people lose faith in the plan and sell their shares, allowing the hedge funds to do what they need to do to get out of this.

 

There is debate (as the site itself states) about whether short interest has actually decreased to that extent or has simply been hidden using reporting/disclosure tricks. The ongoing limited liquidity of GME and all the psy-ops crap related to it does make one wonder.

In any event, a squeeze with an extremely high price peak is now much less likely, but that's not saying we won't re-test highs or see a prolonged (multi-week) hold in the 300-400 range as these shorts work themselves out.

If your entry point was >250, it may be worth holding for a few weeks to see if an opportunity presents itself to exit in the green rather than cut your losses now. And it is still possible, though less probable, that we see a squeeze to an extremely high price. 50+% short interest remains outlier-ishly high.
