Particularly so when you do need to finance something such as a vehicle or a home.

Little or poor credit results in higher interest rates vs a long credit history and high credit score.

I’m here! Was off the grid vacationing. I’m so excited to see the Rocket is still collecting dust and none of my limit sales hit. What else did I miss?

I had two fraudulent charges on my debit card and it was treated like your credit card instance...fraudulent transactions wiped, reimbursed, and new card issued. My debit cart has a Visa tag on it though. Perhaps that's why.

Did you look at your bank balance in the middle of the mess?

    ^^^^

This is what caused the mess.

Low/no balance for a day created a cascade of bounced payments and NSF penalties. That’s what took all the time to get sorted out.

They were two $35 charges at Walmart that were two hours away from each other, Mississippi and Tennessee I believe. It wasn't much of a mess. I did receive an automated call about the transactions which prompted me to call.

And even if the bank refunds your NSF charges, they have no obligation to address any late or returned payment charges from other companies that result.

Debit cards are evil. The only thing mine get used for are to hand to a bank teller with a check for deposit to identify the account I want it deposited in.

These days I so infrequently get a paper check that I just my bank app for mobile deposit.

If I need to get some cash, which has been extremely rare these past eighteen months, I can go to my bank's ATMs and use their mobile app to generate a one-time-use code to authenticate in place of the physical card; still need to put in the PIN but it means the physical card stays in a secure spot at home.

Paying CCs off every month....pfffft. Carry that shit on a 0% interest promo as long as it goes then rotate it to a new 0% card for a flat 3% balance transfer fee. 3% on that balance is way less than it'll earn in the market over a year.

Then de-leverage over time with income while the market is up. When the market is down you want to be buying securities.

Interest arbitrage is fun and garners you extra returns as well as cash back/rewards.

    @not_nick get a CC...
as @Caboose117 mentioned the chase sapphire one is one of the better ones.
there's a couple others - depends on how you wanna use the 'points' i.e. cash back or travel perks.
look up 'credit card churning' = basically trying to leverage the rewards programs to the max

i travel for work and having a travel oriented card is pretty awesome. expenses get paid by the company...i pocket the points. hotels, rental cars, eating out adds up quick.
after grinding for a few years i had a shit ton of pts (200k+) and when i finally got burnt out, i said fuck you and went on a 6 month sabbatical.
got a 1st class ticket to bangkok for 80K pts + 40 bucks and bounced around SE Asia. pretty sweet deal.

i look at it as leverage. Your gonna be spending that money anyway (i.e. gas, food, bills, etc). might as well get a cut of it back or leverage it into travel...
as far as govt tracing goes...don't buy your drugs with a CC...or use one of those face/fingerprint scanners to open your phone.

plus all the building up credit stuff...that's important too.

    anyway, what's up @Iwilltaco!

All this big brother shit still cracks me up. Let me clue everyone in.

Since the Computer Age, and specifically since 2000 on, everything you do is traceable. Privacy is an illusion. We all carry a audio and visual recording device in our pockets that also happens to have a GPS chip in it. So, unless your the Unibomber type and live in a cabin in the woods with no modern tech, just accept it. lol

Yep, and add in a good dose of business-intelligence software and privacy is a complete illusion.

I remember reading about a father being very upset with Target sending pregnancy related fliers and coupons to his teenage daughter...

Turns out he didn't yet know she was pregnant.

... and this was 10+ years ago. You better believe big-data hasn't been holding still.

Up on the Canadian border. Can’t get into Canada yet, but still very nice wilderness. Lots of canoe and hiking. It’s nice to get away even if it does leave you wondering how badly the stock market could be or if I was missing the 1 day GTii spike. Looks as if I missed a whole lot of nothing

How are they enforcing that on the Great Lakes, Lake of the Woods, and the other 20 large lakes that share a border? Seems like if you want to visit Canada a boat would be pretty easy. lol
