Here's the story, I installed an Icon 2.5 C/O kit w/ SPC UCAs as well as the Icon AAL for the rear. I settled on some Method 701s and 285/70/17s KO2s. Discount tire in Federal Way (here in Washington) told me they should fit no problem with no rubbing. I notified them the vehicle had not been aligned yet and I was hesitant to go with 285s even thought they look really freakin' good. I picked the vehicle up today and there was minimal rubbing taking place on my way to the alignment shop (Midas in federal way). I went and picked up the truck and was told there is rubbing on some corners, so after driving off and they closed I noticed immediately the rubbing was much easier to replicate. Here is the alignment sheet and a picture from the side.

From what I understand, there should be 3-3.5 degrees of caster to help clear the cab mount. I can visually see there is an ample amount of clearance in the front, I am kind of pissed at both DT and Midas. DT said they would replace with smaller tires if there is rubbing but they gave me shit on the phone. Midas said "let it settle" for a week and I am not okay with that. What should I do in this case to solve or remedy the issue? Should I fight with DT or tell Midas to disregard the machine and align it to my non factory specs? It seems they just wanted to wam-bam-thank-you-ma'am and send me off. I am currently intending to take this thing on trails but nothing crazy at all, the last thing I want is a strip of tire wearing off from rubbing. I could really use some advice from some of the knowledgeable people I have read from on here. I really wish they would have kept my caster at 3.5.

Huge thanks to anyone willing to help or suggest a solution or place to take this to get it done right.

Its probably rubbing here. Cut part of the flang that protrudes into the he wheel well and some plastic at the bottom there. Can be cut with some scissors or utility knife/blade.

It's on the cab mount, I am trying to figure if caster will be enough. What's your setup?

285/75/17, .75" wheel spacers, jba uca, 4.5 Caster, CMC, pinch weld, a lot of plastic trimming.

I had rubbed prior to alignment, no rubbing after. I slightly rub on cab mount prior to alignment too. I do have .75" wheel spacers, so that cause that too, but i need it to clear uca.

If you haven't cut the spot where i indicated, thats where it rubs bad.

    What wheel specs and offset?

How much did the caster adjustment help? I am debating whether or not it is worth arguing with the shop to redo it with specs that fit closer to my non-stock suspension setup.

I rub slightly on cab mount prior and rub at the arrow on the pic bad on big turns. It easily clears cab mount now and no rubbing at all after.

You should do 4+ Caster with SPC uca.

Do you have an alignment sheet I could reference? I think SPCs max out at 4.

Nah SPC max out higher than that easily. I don't have the numbers though.

My alignment guy is supposedly best in town that's been doing it for 30yrs. The shop's name is Jim's alignment. They do it old school, so spec sheet. I've been tempted to go to a shop just to get printout numbers, but it tracks straight, drives great on hwy, and clears everything so I'm happy.

    He said 4.4(driver), 4.5(passenger)

Take it back to Midas and have them re-do the alignment. You want the rear lower control arm cams pointing in towards the center of the truck and the front cams pointing outwards. Once that is done they have to do another camber/caster sweep. Then you have to select to adjust the camber in a raised position. Lift the front end and adjust the upper ball joint in the slot to change the camber. Lower the truck and recheck camber/caster. If it’s where you want then set the toe. The trucks drive great with 4-5 degrees of caster but at 5 degrees mine barely rubs on plastics. Next time I have something to do on it I plan on dropping it back down to 4. I have an alignment rack at my work and have done an alignment on my own truck 4 times since January as I keep playing with the suspension.

Also SPC isn't as simple as others, so idk about having Midas do it if best he can do is 2 caster.

I am wondering if this task is at the limitation of the technician's skillset....

    Thank you, I appreciate that.

I will be going there first in the AM and starting a shit storm if I need to. The sales rep told me it would fit no problem and it's a f*****g disaster, I would rather have them put 275s on it and call it a day, it will still look good.

I will absolutely be following up for all of you.

Spc’s will go way higher than +4 degrees. I’m on the +3.75 setting and my truck is at 4.9/5.0 caster. The +/- settings are based upon where the stock upper ball joint would be. Since you are maxing camber and minimizing camber using the lower control arm cams you are moving the lower ball joint as far forward as possible which helps with rear fender clearance however the Spc arms will bring the upper ball joint backwards and bring the wheel and tire assembly back when increasing caster. Without adjustable upper arms you have to balance camber and caster adjustments my moving both lower cams. Since you now have camber and caster adjustments at the top it’s best to maximize forward whee movement in the bottom and then use the upper adjustments to get some caster and camber.

Since you know what you are doing apparently, what would you suggest I do to get the people at Midas to increase my caster?

Yes. If they can’t do it then take it to someone that can. Read my previous reply as it has the exact directions you should give them along with the Spc adjustment sheet otherwise they will likely have no idea what to do.
