So after 2 years of owning my truck I always loved the idea of a decked, and recently bought one. Let me start off by saying if you never have to put larger/awkward sized items in the bed of your truck, you’ll love it too. But I typically need to put something large or awkward sized in my bed not on a regular basis, but it does happen. Having a camper shell on top only made the issue worse. I had to deliver a transmission and I had to fight tooth and nail trying to get it in the bed. It was being delivered 50 miles away and I didn’t want to hookup my trailer all just for 1 transmission. Next day I bought a air compressor, again, had to fight it to get it in there with the help of someone else. After those 2 times I just had enough and decided to sell it. If you don’t have a bed rack or camper shell you shouldn’t have any issues. I did really like the fact how it made organizing tools and other smaller items much easier, but I just can’t tow a trailer everywhere I go getting basic items. Hope this helps someone who may be on the fence about buying one or not.

I have a carpeted platform in my truck and I keep two skinny long totes from walmart for tools in there for work. Then I use milwaukee packout for tools on top that come out when not in use.

Easy to take out when not in use. I use the platform to sleep on when camping too. I think it works perfect compared to Decked. Takes less than 2min to take it all out. Downside is you cant lock it, but I just lock my camper shell and tailgate anyway.

When I saw the Decked I thought this, If you took two trucks with the same items loaded in either the Decked or a few tote boxes which would make more sense? For me it was the tote (Plano) boxes.

I have the same problem with my camper shell, love and hate. I have a decked also but the shell is currently on a pallet in the backyard.

I've been on the fence because I have 3 bed cross bars for an RTT. The rails are low rise. If I put decked in, I would have even less space than your camper shell provides. I considered getting taller rails. The only reason I'm still on the fence is because the tent is only on for the summer. When it's off, the decked system and my bed cover would be pretty sweet.

I’m picking up a Decked system and have a camper shell… do y’all have any issues with sagging? been thinking of getting bed stiffeners but don’t know if they will interfere.

I really think the best combination is a decked a tall bed rack system like a Leitner. I love my set up, I can move the bars out of the way with ease, and can haul tall and big items no problem. With a camper shell + Decked I definitely think you limit yourself. You effectively lose your bed as a big platform.

I'm thinking of going this route since I have a sleeping platform in my truck. was thinking of swapping ot for a Decked, but nonw I'm thinking that a bedslide might be better.

I was thinking of doing this setup but say a vid where you have to carve out pieces of the deck to give the support arms of the topper clearance. And even then, you still might lose functionality.

I have a BestTop Supertop Truck 2 and a decked with no issues and no carving. The softopper has a different support system though.

I prefer to have the option to remove my platform system instead of keeping it in full-time so I can haul large heavy items.
There was nothing on the market that I could find that allowed me to do this so I've created BamBeds to address this exact problem.
The boards are designed strong enough to support the maximum payload capacity of the tacoma (evenly distributed across all boards), they do have a small amount of flex which is to be expected but not noticeable when you have a mattress up top. I really don't think there's a more practical solution out there.
Let me know what you think or if you have any design recommendations.

Basically stock. OME 882s, HD Dakars and nitrochrgers, TG front bumper, custom rear bumper, 4Xinnovations sliders, RAT skids, Softopper, 255/85/16 ST MAXX's on 16" steelies, 1" B.O.R.A. wheel spacers Scangaugae II, deck plate mod, grey wire mod,ECGS bushing, diff breather relocation, alarm mod, defrost w/o compressor mod, de-badged, sockmonkey beside decals.
Maybe get a bed extender and utilize the tailgate space as well. Looks like it would've been perfect for the air compressor and transmission. throw a couple straps on them to hold them tight to the decked system and should be good to go.

this is where having a simple tote bag or box comes in handy. throw it in the cab when you need to haul something big.

why not just hook up the trailer though if you have one? i understand it's kinda a pain - but there's no way it would have been worse than trying to stuff that tranny in there

That looks pretty sweet. Nit picky thing. how much flex is a small amount? LOL

I usually just run a sleeping pad, not a mattress.
