I know others have done it, But Redline MT-LV 70/75 GL-4 is better!

Changed out the transfer case oil with RedLine MT-LV oil.

The 4x4 engagement is much faster now, with less hunting.

Correction, I did a trans fluid change today. The Transfer I did 4 days back.

    So about 2~300 miles since.

If you have the trucks driveline lined up, any Tacoma will go back and forth into 4hi, 2WD, and 4lo with ease. The shift into and out of 4WD is mostly due to the luck of the draw with having the splines in the T-Case and the ADD aligned.

The t-case isn’t really a system that “hunts” for the gear. It’s either aligned, or it’s not.

No offence, but your video would make more impact if it showed a series of engagements, after driving the truck around, then sitting stationary and hitting the 4WD knob.

offence taken. I've driven this truck for 19 months. Engaging 4x4 has always been a pain. I engage the four high while driving and it would take 4~6 seconds.

After the oil change, it takes 2~3 seconds. A noticeable difference. I won't film a video while driving.

I've got over 1,000,000 miles with Toyota 4x4's. I know how the system works. Almost every time someone makes a post, in an effort to help others out,

There's always a MoFu stepping in to tell everyone how smart he is.

I’ve got 7,000,000 miles in Toyota 4x4s and all of that was spent in a zen state. Wasn’t trying to trigger you brother. Just staying facts. Your video shows nothing, but I do appreciate you sharing your findings with all of us here.

Video shows the time it takes. others can compare.

7 million miles? you must be about 175 years old.

Not triggered, just how I respond to posters that add nothing but useless info.

Also, I'd like to share a little more info. I was hot to try the Ravenol Gear Oil MTF-3 75W, because it seems to be a favorite in Toyota forums.

After finding a VOA on the Ravenol Gear Oil, I was sad to see that it's sort of a piss poor oil. It has a very poor additives package.

This is why I went with RedLine.

The point @Stocklocker was trying to make above is you are implying that your lube has to be slicker or thinner or something. It's not. Also, when you start talking additive package analysis, Bobistheoilguy is a much better place to discuss this topic. Very knowledgeable guys over there.
I know you are posting here because you have a Tacoma but your findings, if true, would impact any box that meshes gears and splines.
Now you can call me names too lol.

I consider myself an expert too. I will never change the transmission fluid. Transfer case maybe once. Oil every 10k. When she gets to about 150k I'll sell her and grab an electric one.

We had a thread on it awhile ago it conforms to the shell tf0870 blah blah oil that is used by Toyota/bmw/ford/someone else I cannot remember.

Of course we had people arguing that Redline is lying or mistaken about their fluid being Toyota compatible because this is the Internet and every moron has access to it these days.

I’m getting ready to try the Red Line oil also mainly because I don’t want to purchase the liquid gold. I talked to the parts guy at my local dealer about if he had the product in stock. He responded Yes but it was pricy. A technician happened to overhear our conversation and responded that they mainly use the 70/w90.

To me, all the popular substitutes are some kind of special low-viscosity manual transmission fluid. While they have similar viscosity, they vary in additive package with nothing really coming close to Toyota LF.

My curiousity is more academic than anything; I'll probably use MT-LV on my next replacement.
