Solved: I'm going to fork out the extra bucks and make two trips. Don't want to hurt my Tacoma, no sir.
I need to haul about 2600 lbs two miles over smooth paved suburban roads. My 2015 v6 is rated for 1500. The stuff I am hauling is a yard of pea gravel for my pond.
It is 1.75 miles, to be precise.
They want almost 150 to deliver the stuff 1.75 miles.
I don't have airbags or anything like that; bone stock, but in very good shape, but I definitely don't want to ruin my leaf springs.
So, am I a monster, or can we do it if I am careful?

Is making 2 trips to the tune of 3ish miles total a possibility?

I've done close to 2000lbs over 20 miles in my 3rd gen which is only rated for 950lbs and my Sumo Spring bump stops were completely compressed.
Also 2600lb payload is getting real close to stock tire load limits.

I bet you can get into more than $150 worth of trouble making that trip.

Don't be that guy. You're pushing 2X the MAX including you, the driver, and any junk and mods on and in the truck.

Why I got my truck, I got a load of dry soil not even up to the bed sides. The axle rode on the stops all the way home. With past TSB for snapping spring leafs puncturing the gas tank, I'd rent a utility trailer or take 3 trips...it's 2 miles after all, not across the state.

6x12 Utility Trailer Rental | U-Haul This way if you realize that yard did not go nearly as far as you thought you can easily go back and get a 2nd yard. We could also get into how big the pond is and why the use of Pea gravel? Are you using a liner?

Are you basing that on what is in a chart, or the actual payload printed on the door jamb? I've never seen a Tacoma rated that high. Most are in the 900-1300 lb range. Toyota and all manufacturers show the max potential payload on their literature but each individual truck is different and that number is printed on a sticker. 2600 lbs is more than any 1/2 ton is rated for and more than most 3/4 tons.

It would be a lot easier to make 2 trips and 1300 lbs is going to be near, if not over max. I don't mind going over payload by a few hundred pounds for short hauls but not double the payload.

A 6X10 utility trailer is the 1st thing I bought after going down to a Tacoma. It's easier to load, unload, you don't beat up your bed and you can haul more in the trailer than you could put in an 8' bed 3/4 ton and tow it with ease.

I've done a half yard of gravel and the truck was pretty well squished. If you can get 2 half yard loads without incurring an additional loading fee, I'd do it. Then again, at my age, $150 for not having to shovel it out of the truck is a bonus (considering the delivery can drop it in a convenient location for you).

You asked for crap so you got it. That’s dumb as hell to haul that much weight in the back of your truck. You can break springs, you can blow out tires, you can wreck shocks etc. etc. Stopping is a whole other problem. It doesn’t matter that it’s only about 2 miles. With that weight in your truck no such thing as a sudden stop. You’ll go through the vehicle in front of you and maybe a couple more vehicles beyond that. Maybe kill a few people. Making a sudden turn will also be interesting and exciting. You live close why the hell not just make 2 or 3 trips.
When I was young and dumb I was hauling a load of green oak firewood from my dad’s. It was an F150 and the wood was stacked to the top of the cab. Coming over the mountains I hit a large bump in the road , broke the springs and the rear axle, blew a tire and came within inches of going over the side of the mountain. Never ever again did I haul heavy.
So don’t injure or kill someone just make a couple of trips or maybe rent a trailer.

    Yeah.
Why not rent a U-Haul trailer or something? I would not load that much into a Tacoma.

    +1 for two trips…

also at least at my local rock supply yard when you get 1/2 yard at a time they typically use a smaller machine with a smaller bucket.. less spillage in places you don’t want the rocks to land, like against cab, bed rails, tailgate, bumpers.. just a thought

That is within 200lbs of putting a honda civic int he bed of your truck. Tractor supply, home depot, uhaul all rent small trailers rated to haul that load.

    Two trips.

I just did the same thing, a half yard of 3/8 chip stone in a pallet bin, times two. The half yard and bin got the springs close to flat, only about two inches from the stops, and I'm glad I didn't even think about going all the way.

    It's not worth it.

    Two trips.

That's more than my K2500 is rated to move in the bed, I'd never even consider doing that in my Taco. Multiple trips, like everyone has mentioned, or rent a utility and bend the axle on that.

I did it once by accident in my long box f150. Didnt think much about the weight, just aired up the bags to 50psi and drove to the dump. It hit bumps hard, then when we weighed on the way out I saw we had 2200lbs.

Never again, its sketchy and a trailer is 40$ a day.

    2 trips.

If it’s the orange store, Ive had them deliver a couple times. Refrigerator they left cardboard and styrofoam in the street in front of my house. Wheelbarrow they just left it in my front yard and drove away without knocking on the door or anything. So they might floor it in reverse and slam on the brakes to drop it where it falls.
