I'm on my 4th drivers side door handle. Love my truck but the interior door latch is built of such cheap plastic. I buy them from NAPA for $20 each and am now going to buy them two at a time since they only last a few months.

Is there a better brand or supplier than NAPPA, or are these door latches all the same?

No, the plastic hinge part keeps breaking and the handle falls into my hand. Maybe NAPA sells a cheaper version than the original Toyota.

I'd give the OEM handles a try. People still seem to break those after enough years, but I'd be surprised if they weren't better than the NAPA handles. Not that much more expensive either.

I've had luck adding JB Weld to the weak point Before you install.

You may also want to cut a thin aluminum strip to glue in the JB Weld too.

Replace the door latch, I had the same issues on interior and exterior door handles breaking on only one door. Swapped it out and haven’t broke one since. None of the other doors had this issue and it was a passenger front door which you would think would have less wear than the driver

    Another thought......

Something in the opening mechanism could be binding causing the handle to pull hard.

Try investigating the mechanism. Lube the pivot points, check for binding, check alignments........

In short, trouble shoot it. The handle may be a symptom of a deeper problem.

    OME and worth every penny.
and buy OEM. Or even junkyard OEM. I am using some from an '90s Corolla that are better than those Chinese POS. They're red though. Toyota believed in using those on everything.

I went through like 4 of the cheap exterior handles you find on eBay till I finally forked up the cash and got an OEM handle. Seems to be lasting longer than the cheapos.

The latch (the part that actually holds the door shut) gets gummed up over the years and it takes more effort to open. This puts more stress on the handle. If you clean and lube that latch real good, your new handle will last, even if it’s a cheap one. If you don’t, your new handle probably won’t last, even if it’s OEM. It works best if you take the latch out and give it a thorough cleaning. It’s not really that hard to get out, and is probably filthy.

I also seem remember that there was a Toyota car that had metal ones. Maybe you could find one of those.
