Hi. I just got my license about a month ago and learned to drive on a 2017 Grand Cherokee but I got my dads 2002 Tacoma for my first car about a week ago cause my grandfather had been taking care of it since my father died. It's a Double Cab PreRunner V6 TRD Pro and something about it is different than the jeep (Probably Length?) And I keep hitting the curb with the rear right wheel at light speeds (Under 10 miles an hour or so at most) but I'm just wondering do I have to worry about things if it's the rear ? Theres no visible damage to the wheels or tires but is there any mechanical issues I have to worry about ? If so I'd like to get them replaced this spring when I have the springs replaced in the rear too.. so if theres any way to tell could you guys let me know ? I love this truck and it's been my dream car since I was 7 and now not only was it my dads but it was my grandfathers as well so I'd like to try my best to take care of it :)

Take corners wider and watch your passenger side mirror to keep the rear end away from the curb.

aside from possibly scuffing/denting your wheel and tire it won’t damage it, unless you hit something tall and square with some good speed.

Congratulations on the license, but especially on the truck!

Going that slow, unless you catch as piece of jagged concrete curb, you likely won't do worse than a scuff or scratch. Get it all out of your system before you get some high dollar tires and wheels. If you feel any vibration or bouncing after hitting something, have a tire shop check for a bent rim, or lost balancing weight.

As long as I am giving advice,... drive a bit before putting any money in your truck other than maintenance. Many of us guys wrecked our first cars/trucks, so go slow with the custom touches.

Post some pictures. We all love 1st generation Tacomas, whether they are all original, or fully customized. Good luck with yours.

But how is the curb? Did it survive the onslaught?

Don't worry about it! Back when I was a teenager and had only been driving for a few months, I drove over a curb at the gas station. My brother was riding shotgun and gave me a good teasing about it, but the car was fine. I'm sure a Tacoma would be even better, they're pretty sturdy and have more ground clearance and sidewall than most cars. Besides, a lot of Tacomas see some nasty stuff offroad and come back just fine.

    Welcome to the forum!

I did this once when i had to pull out on a narrow street. It did no damage, but it hurt me to the center of my being.

I’ve been driving for 40+ years and have been spoiled by backup cameras in everything I’ve owned for the last 10 years or so. Tough to judge where the back of the Taco ends so I tend to back up until I hear a crash then pull forward a couple inches. The Tacoma takes a licking and keeps on ticking. You’ll be fine.
