I had a wireless scan tool inserted into the obd2 connector and broke the lock tabs when applying the emergency brake and put my foot on the scan tool first.
Got a replacement connector body from Toyota and replaced it. Twas much easier than I thought. All you need is a jewellers and a regular blade screwdriver to remove and replace the connector and transfer the wires from one to the other. I have wires of Similar colors next to each other so I marked one with a sharpie and took pictures before I took it apart. There is one thing holding the harness on place and I used a regular screwdriver to pop it out of the hole above and to the right of the bracket that holds the connector.

Once you get the connector below the dash use the tiny screwdriver to pop open the doors. Then insert that same screwdriver into the connector and unlock the terminal from the body. It will then pull out. The side with only 4 wires, the terminals did NOT lock into the connector shell. Be careful that you don't pull them out not knowing where they were.. These 4 wires I pushed in as I flipped the door closed on that side and they were locked in.

They put the obdII connector above the ebrake pedal on 2nd gens? Seems like this might be somewhat a common occurrence then. On 1st gens it's under the dash above/in front of your right knee.

I did the same thing the very first time I had the OBD2 scanner plugged in. I hear a "snap" and I'm like NOOOOOOO! Luckily, the plug didn't break and everything still worked. Now I'm a little more careful when pressing or releasing the ebrake.

Thanks for the write up. I'll know what to do, just in case

    Thank you

That's how I did it...I kicked my Bluetooth scanner with my foot as I was setting the parking brake.

Edit: from what I've seen, all of the connectors have a number on them that the dealer uses to identify each. The ones I've dealt with have had the number on the face of the plug. Break out the phone camera and zoom in.... Crazy small and quite legible.

    Something to think about.
Don’t lock it in and set it up over the top of the metal mount.
    Won’t hurt anything...

If it falls just use a zip tie loosely to hold it over the top.

Easy swap. Just make a map of the pin out first.

Assuming the wires are in the correct spot, are they locked in with the little door on the connector body? You might have a one or more pushing out as you plug the scanner in.

I the wores are correct might be the metal tabs are either loose or worn,

I orderd replacment from Amazon to redo the metal tabs I'm at a loss.

I get weird codes and at one time abs and vsc came on.

When trying to scan if it did,

Most time it just didnt read or power up

I'm gonna say that our wiring is the same. At least the pin-out of the connector. I'd be surprised if they changed wire colors as well so early on in the model cycle.
A lot of these trucks use the same harness. I'm pre- wired for an inverter that I don't have that the trd versions get...
You got a 2nd gen... 4 or 6 cylinder base, AC, or dbl cab. Trd? 5 or 6 lugs on the wheels?
Here are close ups of the connector. One side is labeled, "wide". Compare locations and colors to yours.

I just wanted to add to this. I just repaired my 2017 Tacoma with this same port. So it works for 3rd Feb as well! Thanks for listing the part!!! They wanted to charge me for the whole harness... Screw that. Took me about 15 minutes!

Just an update so I replaced my connector thanks again. But guess what since it wss replaced
I had the 02 code pop up.
Thinking it's bad I repalced well it wasnt had it tested at toyota to be sure and they did more correction on my odb .... still light comes on

    I priced out a harness
1500 and 1 is only in the us for my year wtf.

So under the last work they are now working on fixing what they supposedly fix.

They said my pins were loose and not placed correctly but it that was the case why do I get my scanner to read.

I'm at wits end on this who deboggle

Ah tough luck dude. I replace 1 pin at a time to make sure it was right cause I knew I'd mess it up.
