Amsoil.jpg I changed the oil in my manual trans and my transfer case with Amsoil 75w90 severe gear and I noticed my transmission is smoother and has less noise, keep in mind this Amsoil is not cheap! however, all the research said it is good gear oil and I agree just keep in mind the cost. The squeeze bottles make it so easy no need for pumps.

I don't know who was first on the market with sqishy bags but they are very convenient. Got a box of four for less than fifty bucks on Anazon.

I've used both. Both are good, Blackstone testing confirms it. Extend your rear diff breather higher, make sure breathers are actually working, and change fluids at correct intervals and it won't matter which one you use.

Is there a mod for checking and extending your rear diff breather? I believe if it gets clogged can cause pressure and problems with seals and leakage.

Whoever invented those durable squeeze bags for gear oils deserves a Man Medal!

I save them, and use for filling the transmission when spill-and-filling. Just use a little transmission fluid to clean the bag out first. Spread the bottom of the bag out, add a funnel to the top, and fill with fluid, replace nozzle. Add the little cap to the nozzle to prevent spills, slide back under the truck, remove cap, insert in fill hole, hold flush to prevent spillage. You can then squeeze it all out through the transmission fill hole in just a few seconds!

It is faster and less messy than fooling with a pump to get the fluid in there, and you don't waste as much fluid.

You can also attach clear tubing, 5/8th ID, I believe, to help drain every drop. Used the tubing on the hard bottles also but squishy bags are still the way to go.

We used these on my son's Jeep and I saved a couple of them to transfer fluids the next time I have to do my truck. I have a gallon of Redline and a pump for my manual transmission and transfer case but use Lucas in my diffs. I'll just squeeze the Lucas into the bag and use the bag to dispense.
Yes, a great damned invention and less to dispose of when you're done.

Amsoil is a cult. Their products are great, but the company and its distribution model is a cult. :crapstorm:

Re: distribution...say wut? Long gone are the days where you absolutely must find a local distributor (and if they still only did it that way I wouldn't buy it). I buy several of their products online direct from their website and have it shipped to my doorstep. The OE engine oil, including shipping costs, ends up cheaper than I can drive to the store and buy Pennzoil Platinum. Company HQ is in my state so I figure I'm also helping to employ local people too. If you can find me a better alternative I'm all ears.

Re: being a cult - it does get weird like that sometimes with online fanboys. Fanboys of any brand for the sake of blind loyalty is plain stupid. I use it because I feel they have some superior products like the Severe Gear and for my own personal needs/wants it's worth the extra cost. YMMV, use what you like, I don't hate on it.

Going to be doing diff oil service on my 2009 soon and I'm happy you posted this. Those squishy bags look bomb. Pumping the gear oil out of the tall bottles is my least favorite thing. My arm is on fire after the 2nd quart haha.

From my research, there's no reason not to use Amsoil in the diff. In the tests I've seen, it does seem to do the best at keeping our hot-running diffs cool. It's not even that much more expensive vs. Valvoline. Last I saw Valvoline was $13/qt and Amsoil is $16/qt before their 25% off subscription program, and less than $13/qt with the discount. Also since the change interval is so long, I personally see no reason not to use it.

I go through the engine compartment, run a long clear hose down along the firewall into your tranny fill hole( that sounds bad) . Funnel on end of hose and pour fluid in ,no crawling under truck till done easy and clean.

amsoil also makes gl4 manual trans oil that is great in transmissions that call for gl4 as gl5 is harsher on soft metals. it is what i use in all my family's vehicles, which are all manual btw.
