My 24 Pro is affected by the transmission TSB. I have 1600 miles with no issues. My questions are this…..

What percentage of Tacomas are actually having issues?

Will all of our transmissions eventually fail?

    Thanks everyone!

Nobody knows… There is an awful lot that fall into the vin range, but so far a pretty low failure rate. I’m not aware of any that failed over about 7k miles.

Will they all fail prematurely? Seems very unlikely.

No info on failure rates. Toyota has not said anything other than under 1000 affected before they put the fix in place...at least that is what I remember.

One thread is for automatics, the other for manuals, you never said which one you have. .

My understanding is that the TSB is regarding debris in the transmissions. Is this debris from when the trans was manufactured ie. machining debris on parts that were not cleansed prior to assembly; contaminated trans fluid; or worst case scenario, is the trans eating itself, leading to failures?

No one knows the percentage, Toyota has not and probably will not ever give that info.

If they thought all transmissions would fail I think it would be a recall not a TSB. Just drive and enjoy it, if you can't accelerate then you can start to worry.

When I heard about the transmission failures I feel like I thought mine was going to go I was feeling a strange feel in the clutch pedal. 13k km in I think I was feeling engine braking. We all know Toyota will fix it if it goes. Just don't think about it. For the first 5k km I was so paranoid but now doesn't even cross my mind until I see a thread with it. Go enjoy that new Pro brother

    That few? That's good.

Interestingly, I got "lucky" in that I test drive a 4x4 SR5 in July that had a pretty "authoritative" 1-2 and 2-3 shift. It wasn't anything I thought was problematic on the drive, but it seems to fit the description of this issue prior to outright failure.

My mid-September built TRD Sport 4x4 shifts smoothly. At least for the 100mi or so I've had it...

Spoke with my service advisor about this yesterday when I took it in for the 5k service.

I asked if they were checking the transmission fluid for any debris based on the TSB. He said no, it's a fairly limited problem based on production and not all VIN's potentially affected will have an issue. Besides, that's what the warranty is for. He's had to replace two transmissions in new Tacos for this problem, but I didn't ask any more details.

I'm not worried about it. I doubt it will strand me any worse than my 71 Mach1 that left me stranded in the Mojave desert with a blown head gasket.

Bought mine in July. There was quite a few failures showing up on the forums at that time (no TSB yet) I flew out to pick it up and drove home 2350 miles. At first there were a few weird firm shifts that made me paranoid, to be honest if there hadn’t been reports of failures I would have ignored it. Made it home no problems, now 7700 miles and don’t care.

No.. just a couple times the first 2k miles. I’m at 7700 now.
