    Hello TW!

Thanks to all of those who helped answer my questions on this thread:
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/looking-for-easy-to-moderate-and-scenic-mountain-trails.594300/

I have decided to go to Hurricane Creek Rd. on Tuesday. I probably won't drive the entire road. I may just cross the 1st creek & then turn back. It'll just be my Tacoma so I can't risk getting stuck. Some people say it's an easy trail & others have gotten stuck. I'm sure that all depends on the weather. My main reason to go there is to go creek crossing. We can't drive through creeks in South Florida because we don't have any. If anyone has any other suggestions of other drive-able creek crossing roads that aren't difficult please let me know. If anyone wants to meet up to ride here (or any other creek crossing road/trail) let me know.

    Thank you

PS. 2015 DCSB TRD O/R 4WD with 2" lift up front & 2.5" out back. I will also have some newly installed sliders courtesy of @SOS CONCEPTS , not the nerf bars pictured in my signature.

There’s been talk of this being closed or being blocked by land owners. Most of this trail borders personal property, land owners aren’t pleased with all of the traffic and trash. Other groups have ruined it for everyone else. Just have a backup plan in case it is closed.

Wow. I guess it's the same everywhere. I can't blame the land owners. OK. Thank you for the info.

Just in case it is closed, are there any other creek crossing trails that you can recommend? I literally just want to cross a creek or 2 with my truck and check out some nice scenery. I don't care about mud or technical stuff.

I'm gonna drive Old Hwy NC 105 as well but no creeks there that I am aware of.

Are you going to be in the Asheville area specifically? I used to live in Greenville. Can suggest a place or two in the area.

I'll be staying at Pigeon Forge from Monday afternoon until Wednesday mid-day. I have all day Tuesday with absolutely no plans so I can pretty much go anywhere. My plan for Wednesday is to go to OLD Hwy NC 105 early in the morning and then home from there.

If you want or have the ability to camp, I can set you up with coordinates for some creekside camping and creek crossing east of Clayton Georgia. Or some possible camping spots in beautiful gorges in NW South Carolina (closest area is Sunset, SC if you wanna look at a map), possible creek crossings, can’t remember the open/close schedule of certain trails. But be aware, they are super remote areas without cell service. I’d download maps before you wander. Let me know if either of these areas sound good and I’ll post more info here.

Thank you. NW South Carolina sounds good. Not really looking to camp though since I already have a cabin reserved.

You can google “Horsepasture Road” or Jocassee Gorges for more info on the area. 133962A6-C318-4226-8283-06A71D9A1F48.jpg 7CB35305-2F17-4440-B94B-D80027AD311E.jpg 59DA24BE-4601-4187-91D3-78D7F784F34A.jpg

    Google maps just now.
The rockslide seems to be right at Hurricane Creek. If going there, you might want to check. They do not expect to be done working for some time, and I do not know if the access is open for you.
Maybe someone driving that way can offer better information. If it was me, I would consider other options.

Since I've moved, can someone update OP with more info regarding gates being open OR closed at HPR?

Damn. Well thank you VERY much for the info. You saved me from a 4 hour round trip between Pigeon Forge & Hurricane Creek Rd.

Searching via Google I found this video:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RtnU_sVyivk

This is EXACTLY the type of trail I am looking for. And if I want to turn around I have room to do so. I assume by his Youtube post date that this gentleman rode through there in January so it's apparently open during the winter. I wonder if he is a TW member.

Only thing missing is the coordinates of the Trailhead.

Looks like I will rename the title of this post to:
Dirt Devil Trail, Tuesday, March 5, 2019.

I was planning to take 40 west on my way to Land Between the Lakes next weekend. That wont really do the OP much good, but I can check then and update the thread for others.

I just Google mapped the coordinates from the rest stop to the entrance of Hurricane Creek Rd and the route time is 5 minutes with a medium amount of traffic. I assume that the entrance is open but I don't know.

I will be in Greenville tomorrow, and there is a very remote chance I can check it out, but tomorrow is my wife's birthday, so that chance is very remote.

    1st: Happy Birthday to her.
    2nd: Happy Wife, Happy Life.
    3rd: Refer to 2nd. ;)

I appreciate that but if you can't that is absolutely fine. I'm currently looking at Dirt Devil videos. Looks like I will go there if Hurricane is closed. Problem is that Dirt Devil is 4 hours from where I'm staying.

    Thank you

I know that the access to Hurricane Creek will change daily, if not hourly.
That stretch of road is busy enough with 2 lanes moving well. With a lane closed it is anyone guess.

And, if you are thinking of bypassing it (there is a way to get from Waterville Rd to a little NW of Waynesville).
It is a road through the GSMNP that gets you to the My Sterling trailhead and on through Catloochee Valley. It is closed, at least on the South end. The Cataloochee entrance, a sign near my cabin, says "CLOSED". The Big Creek end may be open, I do not know.
