    Hey guys,
Ive been noticing lately that when im driving my truck has a humming noise coming from the front end possibly from the drivers side. Its not a tire whine but a deeper humming noise. But it follows with my RPMs so when i slow down it starts to get quieter and slows down as if it was my tires. The weird thing is it only happens when im going strait and turning left but when I turn to the right even the slightest it goes away. I got an alinement resently thinking maybe it was my tires wearing weird but the sound was still there. Im thinking its a hub problem or something along those lines but not sure. Maybe one of you would know or have had a simular problem and know a fix. As usual toyota is useless and doesnt know or “cant hear the problem” but youd have to be deaf to not hear it so I dont know. Any help would be great!

Just the bearing or the whole hub?

Yup, I would say wheel bearing.

Hey TacoKVZ, I had the same on my 2017 Tacoma. I thought it was kind of new to have a bearing going out, but I replaced the whole wheel assembly. The problem is that the sound(hum) got worse. I was really bummed. All indications as others have stated pointed to bearing. Mine has 33" tires and lift. I hear this causes more wear or stress on the bearings. I was wondering if you found a fix. Your description is identical to mine. Also rotated/balanced tires, the noise and location remained. Thanks

I'm in the same boat as TexTaco2017, I've replaced the entire assembly and done the same troubleshooting. I haven't had any luck, the noise sounds like its starting to get a little worse. The noise does go away when I make right turns. I'm starting to wonder if it might be a control arm.
    What do y'all think?

Also figured that I ought to add that its a 2010 V6 SR5 with 114,000 miles. Stock suspension, stock sized tires.

Bothered looking into it being your CV axle needle bearing? ECGS makes a solid clamshell bearing to replace this common issue in these trucks and it works great. Give your axle a good shake and see if there is any play going into the diff. If there is, that’s your problem. Good luck guys.

No problem! Tons of threads on this and ECGS has a video on the tube.

My 2013 has been humming since I bought it a few years ago. I've had it checked by mechanics (from Toyota and the local shop), and everyone denies hearing anything. I've had it aligned and have replaced the tires twice so far (5 years). It now seems like it's getting worse. My good friend rode with me the other day and immediately said "Bro your wheel bearing on the front right is bad, you should have it replaced" so I have an appt. to do so- but after reading the comments I'm worried I'm going to be handing out a bunch of cash for nothing.. Have any of you come to any conclusions about this? Thanks!

Does it get louder or quieter depending on what direction you are turning the wheel?
Such as left/right turns and curves?

Yes it sure does, when I turn right the noise is absent, it's smooth sailing on right turns. But this was demonstrated to the mechanic(s) as well, and they both said that sometimes the tires can do that because they are all-terrain. That just makes no sense to me, it has to be something.

I DID just see that someone mentioned the CV axle needle bearing so I will talk to the mechanic about that prior to going back in (I have an appt. Thursday)

Sounds like a symptom of a right front bearing.
    Your friend and I agree.

Hey all!! I just wanted to update you on my noise issue. Sure enough it was the LEFT wheel bearing. The way it was explained to me was when the noise is coming from the right, check the left and vice-versa. Cost me $400 and I am driving smooth. I wish I would have just bit the bullet and did this 2 years ago. That's my own fault for not being more adamant that the mechanic change out the wheel bearing(s). fourth mechanic visited, first one to agree that it was a wheel bearing. It totally was. Than you for all your suggestions, much appreciated.

I believe it was a hub and bearing assembly (connected) vs separate- don't quote me on that, I'm not a mechanic (Obviously) The mechanic told me there were two types for Tacomas, and if mine was the 'snap on' type assembly he could do it in about an hour. For the other one he said it would be closer to 4 hours and about $500 more. He did do it in about an hour so I am pretty sure it is an all-in-one replacement. I didn't have him do both sides either. I know some would say that is a good idea to just do both but the price for both wasn't any cheaper so I just had him do the left.

I'm having the same issue and will have it looked at soon. Exact symptoms as described by MandoTaco, but I'll add that the noise is loud and slight vibration to the whole car, and can be heard on dirt roads. I've had clamshelled tires in the past which sounded VERY similar, but this seems to be more of a wheel or CV bearing issue.
