HPS Intake Tube and Gibson Cat-Back

Just finished installing the exhaust which was super easy. (1 hour)
I added the HPS Intake tube a few weeks ago.
A little better throttle response and gets into the power band quicker, I had no real expectation of a power boost without a tune to go along with it.
The truck sounds great for a V6, close to stock at idle, no drone and a much deeper sound than stock, really sounds good at full throttle.

So you are saying that you can feel the VTEC kicks in

 

Is there any heavy Drone if you full throttle?

I installed the KN CAI by itself and no exhaust, it sounds really good at 2-4k rpm like a small v8's burble, but if you get above 4000rpms full throttle then it drones quite a bit.

I read that doing the intake Tube which would get rid of the resonator gives it a much deeper sound but hoping it's not super drony/annoying if you go full throttle.

 

The VTEC is alive!!!! Lol.

 

It sounds like when we would flip the air cleaner lid upside down on a 4 barrel car, but not as loud.
I had a 77 Trans Am and it sounded like it was sucking the hood in, but you weren't really going that fast. Lol.

I really like the sound, it's deeper than stock and it almost sounds like a real truck. Almost. Lol.

Like I said I'll do a video tomorrow after this wind calms down .

 

I have the hps tube, with air flow accelerator tube and i love how it sounds. Its much louder at WOT at higher RPMs tuned vs stock. I also have the borla to go along with it and i lt sounds great.

@Mrtacoman88 where do you get the air flow accelerator?

 

Interesting, the stock 3.5 airbox is same size as the 5.7 tundra. I honestly think it wont make any difference. I could be very wrong though.

 

I tried to find the part number but couldnt. I got it from my dealer, its a part of the trd intake, they can sell it seperately.

Thats why i never really understood the trd intake. It uses the lower box of the stock intake, adds an upper box with TRD letters, adds a fancy tube with a smaller resonator and the air accelerator tube. Well and the oiled filter. You can make one yourself for much cheaper and it will make more noise than the trd.

I got the HPS 57-1600 tube, air flow accelerator, trd filter and removed the charcoal filter. Sounds amazing and throttle response improved a bit.

Not bad, for some reason i thought it would sound different.

I like your old camaro, i had 87 with the 2.8L, yes i know... It was the biggest POS i have ever owned though, replaced everything in that car and eventually the engine siezed going up the bridge. Surprisingly it felt quite torquey. Lots of fun in that car, i had it in high school.

 

Gibson's will get louder w/ time... Also rot out from the inside in a couple of years..
