I'm doing both an engine swap and frame repair. The bed is already gone; how tough is removing the cab? I've never done it nondestructively before.

    It's a 4x4 manual extended cab with the 2.7l.

Basically, is the time and effort of removing the cab less than the time and effort of swapping the engine and cleaning/painting the frame with the cab in the way?

I don't know for sure, but I'd think it is pretty straight forward.

Break all electrical connections, disconnect the mechanical connections, remove cab mounts. Should lift off. It'll be heavy and extremely awkward.

Go slow, easy to miss a connection.

Its not bad dependent on rust.

The cab mounts can seize and are a real hassle to cut and remove.

It's just a lot of work and moving it is very difficult.

It's not that hard once you have the motor out. Break lines, fule lines disconect from the tank, ebrake disconnect at the frame arm, tail light harness disconect drone frame and the steering linkage.
It's a lot easier then you think. Onec that's all done undo the body bolts and lift.

Currently I have the heads off. Do I need to pull more of the motor to get the cab free? I was hoping to plop the cab back down on a mostly complete engine bay

Good call, I'll oil up and see if I can get the cab mounts free before disconnecting anything else.

No you don't but you do have to disconnect the ecu and pull the harness through the fire wall. And a few other lines.
