I slapped a small section of 5/8'' I.D. vinyl hose to that plastic drain thingy, so the oil goes to your drain pan....helps to prevent oil instead from running down your arm.

or buy the MotivX tool and thread it in, and thread it out. way cleaner, and easier, than the plastic BS. Ski

I can never get that filter drain plug undone without it loosening the entire filter housing. The plus is, I don't have to use a filter housing wrench

Yup I had to zap it with an impact to loosen it.

The plug is 3/8 drive. What happens sometimes is when you loosen the plug the whole filter assembly rotates loose.

That shouldn't be happening or has never happened to me. Off the top of my head, the cannister torque is 18 ft-lbs & the drain plug is 10 ft-lbs.

Long as it’s torqued right my solution which works every time is just put in the 3/8 and give it one quick shot at the end of the handle. It’s never failed to pop it loose without moving the filter housing.

Overpriced for what it does, but you know what? I can now perform my oil change without getting oil anywhere but the drain pain, I don't regret buying it. Heck, maybe next time I'll be fancy and drain the pain and filter at the same time.

Or use a fram/super tech filter and press the plastic plug into a water bottle. It threads into the housing and drops right into the bottle and then you can poor it right into the jug for recycling without removing it. The little plastic plug that threads into the housing is worth it itself, genius.

I do same thing, otherwise used oil ends up all over the inside of my trd skid.

I just slowly loosen the filter cap to the last thread and let the oil drain out this way :notsure:

13 year-old 4Runner I bought three months ago. Fortunately the major rust is on the removable skid plate brace, not part of the frame.

This is a great idea. I always get oil all over trying to shove that plastic spout on there.
