    Hi all,

I can't seem to find any info on how to remove the factory mic on a 3rd gen and replace it with the mic that comes with an aftermarket head unit. I really don't want to stick it to the window, dash, etc. I've searched and searched on here, youtube, google, etc. and I can't seem to find anything helpful.

    Thanks all!

Just run it under the dash to the drivers side and up the A Pillar and then tuck the wire into the headliner and then into the center console. I used a piece of foam to hold the aftermarket mic in place in where the OEM one was. Works perfect.

Thanks for the reply. Where is the mic located? Looks like there are two spots it could be. there is a little square plastic piece with holes in it right above the driver seat in the headliner. There is also a spot in the center counsel that looks like it has slits in it?

It is in the overhead console right between the map lights. The factory one just snaps out and leaves a rectangular shaped opening.

What year is your truck? My 2018 doesn't have anything over the drivers side seat. The only mic in mine is located in overhead center console.

It appears that is where the mic is located in your truck based on my google search. I would think you can still run the aftermarket mic to the overhead console and just leave the OEM one unplugged behind the headunit.

Thanks. How is your sound quality in the center counsel? I'm guessing not very different than mine?

Everyone I talk to says it sounds great. Picks up from anywhere in the truck.

I pulled out the factory mic from that spot, it's held in by two clips. I took the mounting bracket off the mic itself and jammed it into that spot. Zero issues. Fished it to the side and routed/ziptied along the A pillar and and over the dash to radio. People can hear me, but some people have said they can hear some road noise/exhaust, and i tell them it is a feature of being able to talk to me while driving.
