I have a silver tacoma with the black fender flares but the have faded and are now more of a grayish splotchy color. Whats the best way to make them dark again like original?

I'd go with paint. Polish products and heat are only temporary fixes - paint is too, but less temporary.

I'm not sure if I trust myself using paint. :D

These are a good project to start with because they don't have a lot of flat surface area. That's when painting skill comes into play. Once you remove them you can always sand them back down if you make a mistake too. Just follow the recommended instructions on the can for the distance to keep the can from what you're spraying, use light even coats moving your arm back and forth in overlapping passes like mowing the lawn. Do you want to just make them black again? Even easier than painting to color match since you don't need to clear coat after if you use durable paint like rustoleum professional spray paint cans.

    Plastidip!!

I have (had) color match fender flairs, and the clear coat was staring to peal, so I sanded it all off and re-"painted" with 4 or 5 coats of black plastidip. He color looks great wih that semi matte finish, and so far hasn't faded at all.

I've had it about a year, and wheeled with it several times through some tight brush, and it's still holding up. If/when it does ever start coming off, I'll just peel it off and maybe use truck bed liner instead.

But so far it's been holding up just fine.

01-04 flares are plastic so you can use a heat gun to make them look like new. 95-00 flares are fiberglass so you either have to use of those products or paint them.

Usually I loathe plasti-dip, but for this application it could be the perfect thing - especially if you don't feel comfortable painting :)

Rustoleum professional paint > bedliner if you don't want it to look dirty after you washed it - same durability too. It just doesn't have the material that makes it bumpy and collects and holds dust in the valleys.

I've used it on my sliders and walked on them to clean my roof and it hasn't worn at all so far.

I used fine steel wool on my black plastic fender flares. The steel wool removed the oxidized plastic and looked like new. Just put some masking tape where fender meets paint. You don't need to remove the flares. its amazing how easy it is to bring the flares back to life. Armor-all when you are finished.

I used duplicolor spray can Berliner. Came out nice. I'll grab a pic when I'm out in the garage tomorrow morning

Hey there. Been looking into restoring my fender flares. Got the whole "greyed out" thing going on. Do you mind showing how yours turned out?

Do you recommend this option better? Is this Rustoleum paint actually what they use to spray on the bed liner ?

Thanks no problem. I was thinking of using the Rustoleum option that @Dalandser advised one.
