Anyone know how to reset the "distance to empty" that is displayed on the dash screen? I try to refuel my truck between 1/4 - 1/2 tank and when I do, the distance to empty normally reads 380 miles. Yesterday, I refueled (distance to empty read 380 miles) and drove around running errands. Saw cheap gas at $3.18 and decided to top off my tank. When I did, I thought the distance to empty would reset to the normal 380 miles but instead, it just stayed where it was and decreased with every mile. See pic below. Is there a way to reset it? I normally don't rely on it to tell me when to refuel but was just curious. Thanks!

    Oh look, another mod....
It is suppose to reset automatically when you refuel. However, I have had the same issue that you had. I think it was because the gas tank did not drop below a certain level, so it never went back to the original DTE reading.

Also, keep in mind that the DTE number is worthless. It fluctuates based on your driving habits. For example: When I first bought my truck, it would always read 380-ish. Now, 18 months later it reads 345-ish. Regardless of that, I always get over 400 miles out of a tank and average 20+ MPG's.

If you absolutely have to have it back to where it was, you can disconnect the battery. Then, press and hold in the horn for 10 seconds. Then reconnect the battery and start the truck, the DTE should go back to where it was. Don't worry it won't harm anything, but it is kind of extreme to do.

Disconnect the battery then press and hold in the horn for 10 seconds? What does that do?

Helps to drain stored power from capacitors etc when the battery is disconnected.

Only if you are nak’d or something- he said to disconnect the battery first. :rofl:I think it’s to try deenergizing the system or something, but without power to the horn circuit, you’d think it wouldn’t be able to do anything.

That sounds like a major load of bullshit right there. Prove me wrong as I am frequently wrong!

But will it drain the flux capacitor?

Ah, but but won’t the horn circuit relays be closed also, does it really work?

Most cars I have driven lately the DTE just shuts off at 20 miles anyway. So not that much more useful than the fuel gauge itself.

That’s a good trick to remember. There’s a lot of functions not mentioned in the manual, like how holding down the iQ button for 5 seconds makes the charger light blink fast when it’s in quick charge mode.

    Oh look, another mod....

We're getting a bit off track here. The moral of the story really is: The DTE reading is misleading and utterly fucking useless.

You'd have to also remove all the "Is it totaled" and "What size tires do I need" threads. Then...this place would be a freakin' ghost town.

Just pull the short pin (clear fuse with red line) in under hood fuse box in and out that’ll do it. It kills like all power that’ll reset it

short pin is pulled during shipment so the battery doesn’t drain it kills certain circuits. It will reset fuel distance. No tools takes 20 secs try it and see . Open door pull fuse under hood see what goes out

I rarely look at DTE. Since engineers designed the fuel pump to be in the tank, my thinking is it is bettter to keep it submerged then slosh fuel on it. I fill up when I get down to a quarter of a tank.

Normally reads 380? WTF mine normally reads 280! Im basically stock lol.

Anyways. You have to reset your tanks average mpg info which then kinda resets but not really resets the DTE.

Gotta change it to by tank and not over all average in the settings.
