Most likely the extra 3 pins are for the LED. When I added an OEM illuminated fog light button it had 3 extra pins - pos, neg and ground was what they were.

I think I got it figured out guys! First off to remove the section where the push start button is located, you have to start with the door sill panel, then remove the driver kick panel, then remove the lower dash area under the steering wheel. Then you have to take off the dash trim around the entune system to be able to pry the climate control/push start button panel.

As far as the red TRD button goes, if you get the correct one without LED (which is referring to the green light above the letter R) you will have the correct plug harness. (Same as the FRS video posted earlier) but if you get the one with LED like I did you end up with an 11 pin like the picture below. My TRD offroad 4x4 without tech package has an 8 pin with a smaller harness. All the wording on the button light up for every variety of button. If you refer to the post by @mesojdm I have #1 (MS422-001) on the parts list and the FRS video has #3 (MS422-001). #3 should be a direct swap for our tacomas.

    There are two solutions:

Option A: easier route would be to order the button without LED (#3 MS422-003) I believe this will be a direct plug and play, but I have not confirmed this.

Option B: get the harness pigtail from an applicable vehicle, get the wiring diagram from our truck, then splice the correct wires to pin out. Find a 12v source (+) and negative (-) and ground.

Top with white plastic is the red TRD push button and bottom is the stock Tacoma push start.

Nice! Thanks for your input as well!

I got mine for $100 on eBay. User was HONUS64. I'm gonna source the 11pin harness and get the pin out for the wires and make an adapter so I can use the button I have.

I would buy this as a plastic or vinyl applique over the stock button. Where are the Tacoma vinyl rear letter guys? LOL

$200 and ripping out half the dash is not worth the color "red"

So I went to the parts department to see if they could look up the push to start ignition harness for the 11 pin but they couldn't find anything. Does anyone have that information? If I can get my hands on the 11pin harness, then I can convert the 8pin to the 11 pin and install MS422-00001

I would go to salvage yard where they sell Lexus parts and ask for button harness, usualy they don't want to sell just harness unless that part is already sold or damaged.
Few years ago I wanted to buy door wiring harness for my 4Runner and they would only sell that with complete door. I found one that had lots of damage and they sold me just harness for $20

Great idea! There's not many salvage yards to choose from being I'm on an island tho. I'll check craigslist for part outs

If you connect the the gray wire, brown wire, and ground together, you can just use any button you want.

Found this diagram for the BRZ (and the TRD button works perfect on that). Could be useful. Top and bottow rows of the same 10pin connector.
