I’ve been trying to get to the fuse box for a few hours now. Gonna be wiring a lightbar and I have to use the interior fuse box to light the switch apparently. I wanna make sure I know what I’m doing before I install this. I’ve been trying to get to the fuses but no luck.

Can’t find anything on YouTube. Couldn’t even find the location of this fuse box until today

Work the latch from the back, pull down then forward. Might be a little tricky to reach back there, keep working it or get someone with small hands to help.

Yeah I had to get it to better fit the add a fuse, since it provides more clearance for stuff in there, and it has perforated notches you can knock out to run the wiring out of.

Yup, one of the worst design elements of this vehicle, I broke mine within the first month. It now sits in the charging port area. Hope I don't lose it.

Stumbled on this thread trying to get my Tacoma fuse cover off to replace a blown auxiliary power port fuse . For sure don't try to remove the cover the way the videos show in post #4. The other instructions on this thread were unclear to me, so I thought I'd post how I got mine off (without breaking it) as clearly as I can.

It took me about a half hour pulling and pushing with no success, but almost broke the cover. I finally took some pics with my phone under the dash and was able to figure out how to get it off without breaking it. Sure, one can get another fancier cover, but who wants to spend at least 20 bucks getting a new fancy cover when no one even sees it?

First, let's do away with this terminology of front and back, or at least clarify it. To make things clearer, lets assume a ghost is sitting in the driver's seat. I use ghost because a real person in the driver's seat would have physical legs which would get in the way of you crawling around their legs to remove the fuse cover.

So, to remove the cover, first you lay your back on the floor mat (right on top of the ghosts feet). You look up and you will see the cover just above the ghost's left foot, under the dash.

The cover is rectangular shaped and is fastened on two ends. One end is closest to the ghost's left knee (we'll call that the front of the cover), the opposite end is also fastened.

You want to remove the end closest to the ghosts knee first. But, don't use a prying tool, like the videos in post #4 show. Instead there is a little slot on that end. The little slot is shown in the bottom of the pic below. That slot has a little plastic barb which keeps that end on, when it's installed under the dash (again we are talking about the end closest to the ghost's left knee). That end is the key to getting the whole cover off, without breaking it.

To get the cover off, you want to stick a very small screwdriver in that little slot. Pictured below is the screwdriver I used to get the cover off. For the picture, I stuck it in the slot so there is no confusion.

    upload_2023-5-4_23-16-42.jpg

Once you have your screwdriver in that slot of the cover, under the dash, you want to gently pull the screwdriver towards the ghost's left knee and slightly down. Just pull the screwdriver straight back and slightly down. This will unlatch that end of the cover from the latch. It doesn't take much force. That end will drop down about an inch. Once that end is undone, take the cover and push it away from the ghost's left knee (the opposite way you pulled the screwdriver). That will release the other end.

Here is a pic of the reverse side of the cover. You can see how the cover is held on by the ends. The right end is the one you want to release first, which will be the end closest to the ghost's left knee when the cover is installed under the dash.

Once you get the cover off, take care this doesn't happen to you.

it's a cover... pull it off, if you break it, throw it in the glove box for future reference of fuse location. Ski

applejack1: thanks for taking the time and effort to explain that. It is a pretty lame design.
