I am replacing the ignition lock cylinder (with an OEM replacement) and would like to use the same new key for the door locks and the airbag on-off switch in the dash. How could I do that/ Will a locksmith be able to do it? Thanks for any advice.

Locksmith. Will be cheaper of you bring the lock cylinder up then to change. It will cost more of they perform the entire work

Great suggestion. I did remove the liner of the driver door recently, then removed the whole mechanism to clean the latch so I might remember how to do it; if not there was a useful YT video. That gave my door handle/latch a second wind.

Will remove both door cylinders and the airbag one and have them rekeyed.

Will wait for the cylinder to arrive from Camelbck Toyota first.

    Thanks man!

BTW there are videos online claiming that the door mechanism is poorly designed and you should replace it due to age. Mine refused to open at some point with the outside handle (would open OK from the inside).
But after I cleaned it it works well, and I did not replace the outside door handle as there was nothing visibly broken or worn on it.
The passenger side of course is far less affected.

I’m not sure. Mine still work fine from 2002. Just ask the locksmith to clean and oil them during reassembly.

    i wouldn’t replace what’s not broken

I wonder if these are any more difficult than rekeying locks for your home. I know that they're double-sided but it's not hard to rekey things yourself if you look online and you get the equipment to do it. Honestly cheaper to do it yourself even buying the equipment for a one-time job.

I re-keyed five locks in my home never having done it before and I was able to do it and a long afternoon. Actually enjoyed it... I'm sure it's a similar procedure for cars.

They can be rekeyed at home, but you have to be patient with it. If you take them out and take them to the locksmith the price is usually pretty reasonable.

I had one rekeyed for my wife's old Rav4, $20 well spent and a fast job for them.

I brought the new cylinder and old key in on Friday about 4:30, picked it up the next day before noon. Took it home, swapped it out, replaced the window switch panel in the process. Done and done.

That vehicle didn't have a fob so she had to unlock from the passenger side, then walk around to get in the driver's side. A bit of a pain.
