There is a group of thieves around my workplace that is stealing catalytic convertors from the parking lot, there's nowhere I can park around other than that parking lot and the workplace told us they can't increase security so "Drive lower vehicles" any advice on how to avoid getting my catalytic convertor stolen?

A determined thief with an angle grinder is hard to beat. That said, there are several manufacturers of transfer case skid plates that also cover the cats. You can get one of those and put some security bolts on there. In many cases, if a thief can't easily see the cats and put a reciprocating on it quickly, they will more than likely leave you alone. Plus the skid plate is functional, too.

I just received my catalytic converter cover from Talon's Garage. I plan on installing it today. I highly recommend this one, as it is heavy duty, although made of aluminum, and easy to install with NO DRILLING. It uses existing holes for the installation, and it literally can be done in less than 10 minutes, probably even less time than that. I have watched one video on youtube that shows someone installing it, but they had a skidplate on the front and I don't. Oh, and for those who just say "get a skid plate", they do NOT cover the converter! You need a catalytic converter COVER, which actually ends up looking like an extension of a skidplate, for those who actually have skidplates installed. But here is a direct link for Talons Garage, which is a veteran owned and the cover is made by a veteran.

I take my cats off at night and put them back on in the morning.

I think skids are the best answer, takes too much time to access them. Too much risk of getting caught. Although I just saw an article yesterday about 2 thieves cutting the cat off a woman's Prius while she was in a grocery store in broad daylight!!! So maybe there is no good answer!

now that I have joked about it, someone will steal my cats on me!!!:annoyed:

As you said, a determined thief could still take your converter, but what you are trying to do, is DETER the thief, which is what a converter cover does. By the way, the problem with putting locking bolts on, is that when you need to service your transmission, these bolts will then have to be grinded off in order to remove the catalytic converter cover, in order to then get to the transmission. My solution, and again, this is realizing this on still, only a deterrent, but I am going to get bolt covers, which I will then seal onto the bolts, so that it will definitely make it harder for a thief to take off the bolts, and also, which can be pried off when the need arises, to have to remove the cover for servicing.

I think this is what I'll do, it sounds like my options are limited so, praying and putting a cover will hopefully do the trick.

Well.....this isnt very efficient, but you could take the wheels off and set the truck on the ground. o_O

This is a little more practical and not too expensive.
Use some expanded steel metal to quarantine the CATs. Use tamper proof bolts and fender washers to attach to the frame. A drop of medium strength loctite on the bolt threads. Expanded steel is a bugger to cut, its noisy and the interrupted cut tends to destroy blades/wheels. The tamper proof bolts need special tools, the loctite will be difficult to break if the thief uses vise grips on the bolts.

    Popular and somewhat expensive.
There are many aftermarket bolt ons for this. Ranging from cables to plates.

The object is to make your stuff difficult to steal. In other words, the neighbors stuff is easier to grab. Thieves don't want to spend time or effort. They operate on a grab-n-go mentality.

Otherwise, make sure your Comprehensive Insurance will cover such a loss.

CBI overland skidplates.. dual purpose... protection from rocks, and theft. the rear plate is a PITA to remove, especially if the exhaust is hot... I do recommend doing the exhaust reroute, and getting the flat rear skid.. it is a harsh scraping/hang up point..

Switch your comprehensive to zero deductible and then stop worrying about anything that could possibly happen to your Taco while it's unattended. The end.

I’ve been adding material to the rci mid skids for customers and they seem to be enough to make them not want to deal with it 84E224A2-2618-411A-957A-FBD6BC4F5629.jpg
