    Hello everyone,

    I have a 2006(2nd gen) truck

    My hood cable is broken.

Is there anyway I can able to open it from outside?

pls suggest any options without breaking the grill.

I would really appreciate any inputs.

    thank you.

Did it break at the hood release or at the latch?

You need to go from underneath with a long strong screw driver.

You need an example near to understand the mechanics of what you're trying to do, it's difficult to explain, so a similar toyota would be best next to you to help visualize the tab you are pushing back.

    It's not easy.

It broke at the hood release. I tried pulling the cable but hood is not opening.

Have someone push down on the hood slightly as you pull in the cable, that sometimes helps take some tension of the cable and it may release the latch or is the cable just coming out of the casing?

I tried someone pushing down the hood while I pull the cable. It didn’t work out.

The cable is coming out from the casing till a certain point. And I’m hearing the cable movement near the latch.

I’m guessing the cable got disconnected near the latch. I don’t know yet.

Put the cable end back in the release handle housing, put vice grip on cable end, have someone push down lightly on hold, give cable end a hard pull, it should release. If you can use the release handle housing, put channel lock LOOSELY sideways against the cable housing end, hold it in place, give vice grip attached to cable end a hard pull with someone lightly holding down the hood.
