How to make USA Spec Charge iPod

Just like the title said I installed a USA Spec PA15-TOY ipod interface and realized once my battery died, it wasn't charging my ipod classic or iphone 4s. A lot of devices do not charge the iphone but i was under the impression it would charge my ipod classic. I read the manual and played with the dip switches and no combination helped. It also shows no song info on screen (which is not a deal breaker). Everything else functions fine. Any Thoughts?

 

Did you ground the USA spec unit to a good ground point? It won't charge without a good ground point.

 

Don't remember anything about an external ground in the install specs

 

I have installed a few of these on other cars (not on my Tacoma) and they all had a ground loop that needed to be attached to the radio chassis. I haven't installed one on a taco before, so apparently that one is different. I guess I ass.u.me.'d

 

This is the likely culprit-Check that you have a cable that works with the devices you want to plug in.

 

This ^^. I don't have one in my Tacoma, but I installed one in my wife's BMW 330xi last month. No ground wire was required.

 

I installed one in my tundra... No ground required and it charges my iPod classic no problems. Haven't tried my new iPhone yet though but I don't expect any issues.

 

no ground wire here.. ipod charges just fine.. you have to change it to a certain channel or playlist on the radio in order for you to use the controlls on your ipod to pick a song. Other than that it should charge it

 

^^This! How old is your USASpec? The cable came out when the iPhone 3Gs came out. I contacted USASpec when I had one, and it cost $30 incl. shipping to get a new one sent to Canada. Simple swap, and the charging worked.

 

That seems odd. I just put one in my Taco and exclusively use an iPod video 1st gen and it seems to charge it fine. in fact, it charges it while the truck is off and the key isn't in the ignition (a little annoying honestly).
