Is this information posted on the Toyota Owners website when you log in to your account, with your truck's specific VIN number linked to your account?

Or are you expected to stay on top of the Recall/TSB announcements yourself?

Recalls you will be notified in the mail. Or you can go on toyota owners and run your vin yourself and see if it pops up. TSB’s are technical Service bulletins. Basically these are common known issues a long with a diagnosis and repair procedure for technicians and service advisors. When a customer has a concern, a technician or advisor can browse those and see if the concern applies to said bulletin.

TSB's are not intended for consumers to see and read, as they don't all apply to every vehicle or create cause for repairs. Its a specific repair to a specific problem.

Recalls are mailed out and you can always check Toyota's recall page for this.

Recalls they make sure you know, as mentioned they will reach out via letter in the mail, in or out of warranty.

TSBs are usually customer initiated because not all vehicles may experience the said problem, so they don’t want to waste time doing it if nothing is wrong. Even if nothing is wrong, you can still have a TSB done if your vehicle qualifies by simply asking them to do it. TSBs are typically free of charge during warranty period. Outside of warranty you have to make noise with corporate if you get pushback from the dealer. At the end of the day someone has to reimburse the dealer for time spent, whether that’s you or corporate.

Recalls are guaranteed reimbursed by corporate regardless of warranty period or not and are usually much more serious issues that can affect saftey or life of occupants. So they don’t mess around when it comes to that, they just do it. Even if you don’t know about it, if you happen to be at the dealer, good and honest dealers will tell you it exists and that they’re going to perform the recall fix. I mean after all they’re going to get paid for it from corporate so it’s extra $$$ for them.

I’d make sure you review the TSB list just before warranty expires and have them all done even if you don’t have the symptoms because Murphy’s Law applies here, the problem or problems will arise the day after warranty expires, like clockwork it never fails!

Create an account for yourself here, login, and snoop around:

    https://www.toyota.com/owners/

Then, you can also keep track of them here also:

    https://www.nhtsa.gov/recalls

Go to the site, select Recalls, select Vehicle, enter your year/make/model and search, select the # under the Manufacturer Communications, scroll down and you'll find the TSB information NHTSA has.

I agree. People may realize Toyota's are not perfect if they see there are TSB's or recalls out there.
