I’m trying to find out is it so complicated to install the 120v on your back side of bed (2002 trucks) or is it as simple as it gets thank for any inputs!!!!

    Before I chime in...
    1. What do you want to power?
    2. Are you planning on adding a bunch of other after market accessories to your Taco besides this?

^ I am asking because a simple 12V power-port / cigarette lighter inverter pushing out 200-400W may be all you need.

    Edit:

If you are set on installing something permanent to your Taco this is what I would do...
    1. Figure out what you will need to power and then buy the appropriate wattage Xantrex true sine wave inverter because it has built in GFCI and is true sinewave so sensitive electronics like laptops are fed what they need.
    2. Look in the instruction booklet for your inverter for the max amperage draw of the inverter then buy a thermal circuit breaker for the max amperage your inverter will draw to protect your electrical system. You could also go with an ANL fuse for the correct amperage as well but then you would have to stock up on ANL fuses when all you have to do is reset the thermal breaker.
    3. Buy 4-6 gauge wire to run to the Inverter. Positive will go from the lug on your inverter to the thermal breaker and then from the breaker to the battery. Negative will go from the lug on your inverter to bare metal in the cab (chassis ground).
    Wiring is as simple as....
    • POS Battery -> Fuse/Breaker -> POS lug on your inverter
    • NEG lug on inverter -> Chassis ground (get a self tapping sheet metal screw)
The biggest pain in the ass will be getting 2 or 4 or 6 gauge wire through the firewall from the battery to wherever you mount the inverter.

First you need to figure out the total number of watts of your added goodies you plan on using .

Then figure out the size of the inverter you need to purchase . Then if the electrical system of the truck can support the operation.

If it were simple electricians would be out of work.

There's tons of super smart people on here that can guide you, but you'll have to give more details like what @mic_sierra requested. Anything is possible if you are willing to put the time, money, and effort into pulling it off.

Do you run a camper shell? If not, having a bed mounted inverter isn’t gonna work. They’re not waterproof.

You need to do the math. You can't just plug things in if you don't want to walk home.

I’m don’t have a camper shell still looking for now just the covers keep it tidy

I see where it goes I’m willing to play with for sure to be able to make it happen for sure I real appreciate it for educating me here I love this community truly mean it.

I think for me to run the wire and mount it end of the rear tailgate door left or right side would be so nice if I go for camping so I can use it my devices will see so far I’m on the thinking mode…

Not really true you can get a weather proof inverter it just adds $$$$$$ to the cost.

Pretty much taking it out of the home /hobby type applications.

Unless budget is never a problem.

You have so many things your trying to do .

Quite a few different threads doing research is great!!!

Why not start your on build thread to focus everything in one place . Easy for you and us.

Most of us are very willing to help but you need to meet us halfway.

Even weatherproof/marine inverters are designed to be covered, not just mounted out in the sun and rain.

I tend to forget Some people don`t have access to industrial level equipment .

Not really all that different then a outdoor AC box Just an inverter mounted into a Water proof enclosure .

In most cases I agree with you.

In OP case A 10.000 watt generator would be very much cheaper .

Be careful with using an inverter in camp unless you have a 2nd, deep cycle battery you can isolate from the main starting battery.

In camp your alternator is not running to keep your starting battery topped off. Powering accessories like a fridge and lights and stereo can quickly drain the starting battery and leave you stranded.

Yes you can jump start it but traditional starting batteries are not designed to be discharged very much. Repeated usage in this manor will shorten is life.
