Has anyone added the heated seat feature on their 3rd gen after buying new. I’m at a little over a year, and regret not having the heated seat feature added when I picked up my 20 new.
    Cheers

Much easier and way CHEAPER to go aftermarket on this as your factory wiring harness may not have the connectors/provisions for adding this factory option.

I bought a truck that didn't come with heated seats, and had the dealer install aftermarket seat heaters before I brought it home. The button isn't the same as the OEM option, but it does the job just as well and I'm happy with it. I had very similar aftermarket seat heaters on my last car for 10 years and they held up fine. Cost for both seats was around $600, I think?

I added a Clazzio seat heater kit ($$$). I bought a cheap kit but sent it back because it was cheap. The Clazzio controls fit in the stock Tacoma slot. I was recovering the seats with Katskin’s so added seat heaters while I was in there.

They're just a heating pad that goes under the cover of the existing seat, on the butt and back. I imagine they look very similar to the Clazzio heater pictured above.

*edit* actually, I just looked up Clazzio and I'd be willing to bet that I've got the Clazzio universal kit. The switches look identical.

600 doll hairs on a universal seat heater with generic rockers drilled in the dash/console… umm no

that would of paid for a base black complete katzkin replacement . If your going to pay that kind of money for seat heater/install then at least demand the Toyota style switches that you can insert into a factory switch hole rather than drill hole randomly near seat. There are at least 2 Toyota sized switches (1 pictured above with a dial and image.jpg). All the aftermarket pads are relatively the same, only difference is in the switches really and brand name slapped on it. I do believe that katzkins had something different with a cool/heat pad though.

Spray adhesive wasn’t needed (with provided tape) on the bottoms but was needed on the backs. Seat back has a contour that bulges which looked like ass after the katzkins were installed so I took it all off and sprayed it to lay flat. I still haven’t wired it in yet but I have the harness just about redone and ready for install.

i did not know katskinz could do a heater/cooler combo into seats. any more info on this?

    theres this thread https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/mod-for-true-a-c-cooled-seats-katzkin-degreez-required.561766/

and it looks a little more difficult than a typical diy job

I seen it on their site way back when I was looking. No idea on install but doubt it’s overly complicated.
That thread is a diy fix, not required but looks to give a 20degree difference in cooling. I wasn’t willing to shell out that amount for a cool option so I stopped there.

Yeah I installed an 80 dollar kit from Amazon on both front seats some weird brand called Besond. it came with toyota switches that fit perfectly took like 3-4 hrs. worst part was getting the upholstery up. But wiring was easy. The taco comes apart easy. and it's easy to run the wires here you need to

Here’s what “generic rockers drilled in the dash/console” look like in the wild… if I’d known about the other switch options, I may have gone with these anyway.

I might have thought twice about doing the work myself if I’d known the parts were only 1/4 of the price I was paying though… oof.

I checked with my local Toyota dealer, who farms it out to a local Performance Auto Sound, who wants $900.00 + tax. I think I would rather have a cold ass. Bummer, as I was hoping to add them.

Dang! Ask around at some auto shops around town. In my last vehicle, I had them done at a local shop who did a great job. If a dealership here will do it for $600, there's got to be a local shop there who's more reasonable.

I added them to my truck. Worst part is taking off the seat cover. If I was doing it again I'd just get some Clazzio leather seat covers and put the heater between the stock fabric and the cover.

Wiring was easy as I grabbed power from the electronic brake controller circuit. Also have a fused 12v hot for future use.

Are you guys already getting seat upholstery replaced or seat covers added and are getting an additional 600-900 to add on seat heaters? Or just straight seat heaters on stock seats/upholstery?

makes a big difference and may explain the higher cost. The seats will be removed and the skins removed and reinstalled after pads are installed. So if you aren’t already replacing them then you are essentially still paying the full labor as if you were.
