How to identify a limited slip diff???

Is there a way to tell if it's a limited slip diff by looking from the outside?

Only if you jack it up.

Spin one tire and see if other follows. Not foolproof.

If your wondering on your truck, it doesn't if stock.

 

Is it a factory differential?

 

Plug in your vin, see I it’s listed from the factory...anyone have the link for the VIN decoder?

 

Rear diff should have a white label on it to let you know you need an LSD additive.

But it would only be helpful if a factory diff on a vehicle that came with a LSD at time of production.

2005 had the LSD. I believe 2006 did as well. After that they went to the auto lsd that utilizes the brakes

 

Does it have a trac button, that would at least tell you if it has limited slip controlled thru brake system.

 

The Sport models from 2005 - 2008 had true mechanical limited slip differentials, with a factory decal on the outside of the diff indicating that an LSD additive must be used when changing the gear oil

After 08 the Sports went to a basic open diff with the electronic braking feature that mimics the effects of an LSD

There is a sticker, but the rust usually makes it fall off.

Use the link above and look it up. I owned mine for 5 years and no one told me about that VIN lookup. Found out i had LSD on my 2007 all along.

If its an 06 with that label on the diff then yes, it has an LSD in it.

 

Thanks I plugged it in but I can't tell for sure what it has in the end. It says it has the PY TRD Sport Package #1 but it doesn't list a LSD.
