I won a small claims court against a POS contractor who tried to rip me off. He hasn't paid me, of course, so now I need to file a writ of garnishment. I need to know what bank he uses before I can file that. How do I go about figuring out what bank someone has an account @?

    TIA

How did you pay him? If by check or credit card your back will know where the money was sent.

Your bank should provide a photocopy of the signed check. The stamp on the photocopy will have his bank's info on it.

Just looked @ the checks. He took them to my bank and cashed them. Shit! I thought I had him by the short hairs!
    Any other ideas?

The only thing on the checks is his signature & what appears to be his SS#.

He may not have a bank, that would explain why he went to yours.

I sued my plumber for a new house install once and wound up just finding out his wife had all the money.

Sounds like he does not have a bank an that's why he went to yours. All I can say is tell the claims court what's happening.

Roundabout idea that's a much bigger pain in the ass. Here in Texas property owners are an easy public record. If you know the guys address (should be in court documents) then you can figure out his landlord. You can subpoena the landlord for his banking info. Or, if he's a property owner, maybe you can ask the court for a lien against his property?

You can't get his house or 1 car. If he's smart he has it all in someone else's name.

If you got him served once, then you should be able to serve him with Interrogatories (questions he has to answer under oath).. that is when you ask those questions. Try the county assessor. Secretary of State might show if he is a registered agent of a business. People these days suck.

He owns. In Texas, his "Homestead" is "exempt" from this.
I have a lot of info. on him. Yes he has a company but as far as it being more than a DBA (Doing Business As), I don't know.
In Texas, I can't get his house or 1 vehicle for each driver that lives in his home so this does me no good.
    10 years in Texas.

I can do this but I know as soon as I do, he'll empty that account & open a new one or only deal in cash from then on out. I'm not the only lawsuit he's dealing with right now, I do know that.

Cashing the check at your bank doesn't mean he doesn't have his own bank account. Just means he's trying to make it unreported income, same as getting paid under the table.

After doing about 500 bux of chasing 1500 I gave up and just chalked it up to learning "Suing does no good, just steal his truck"

What you need is post judgment discovery. Google it. Might be called something different in your state.

That's the same as above, here called Post Judgement Interrogatories. I can do it but I bet he empties all acounts afterwards, before the process would be able to freeze his account(s).
