Hey guys so I fucked up again lol. i broke a bolt clean off and need to get a replacement and more important the broken half out. I have some badic tools but no power tools aside from an angle grinder. How would you suggest I get this bolt out so I can finish up my brake install? I’ll probably have to buy all the tools needed for the jobs too so please let me know what I’ll need to get this done.

If you can get at the back of the mounting tab and there is some bolt sticking out, use vise grips to work it out. Soak it in Kroil or PB Blaster overnight first.

There’s a solid inch of bolt sticking out on the other side. The only problem is that its in between the frame and the lead spring so my vise gripe don’t fit. Do you think I could do it with a small pair of vise grips if I pick up a pair from harbor freight?

You'll need a drill. That's a through-hole. You can use a screw extractor bit from Home Depot (variety of brands to choose from) or just drill through it with a regular drill bit. Even if the threads get destroyed, you can always use regular nut and bolt. It just holds the parking brake cable clamp.

Why did you loosen that bolt anyway? A bit early to replace the parking brake cable on a 2017.

Well I guess I’ll just suck it up and buy a drill and the extractor kit lol. Atleast I’ll get some good use out of the drill in the future.

I’m adding a brake line extension bracket to accommodate the Lift I have and the extra 2 inches I’m going to add. The bracket just moves the brake line down a couple inches and away from the lead springs. The plan was to reuse the factory hardware To mount the extended bracket to the truck but now I need to swing by the dealership and get a new one lol

Get someone to weld a nut on the remaining bolt piece and back it out

Center punch, left handed drill bits, pb blaster and lots patience. Use the center punch to create a divit in the center of the bolt so the left handed drill bit doesnt hop off center. The shock of hitting the center punch with a hammer should also help.

that would be pretty easy. I wish I took my welding class in college already so I could do that myself but I doubt welding machines come cheap so maybe I wouldn’t be able to do it if I knew how to weld.

Interesting. I'm lifted 4" in the rear and I have more droop than stock (thanks to Icon RXT springs and shocks), yet I can keep the bracket at the stock location. I just bent the "hoop" bracket that's further downstream a little to keep the cable away from chafe points.

Surprisingly no I can still drive it the other bracket pushes the brake line out far enough away from the lead springs to where it’s not in the way but I’d rather fix it and do it right.

You can also take it to a muffler shop and have them liquify the screw stub with a torch. Just put a temporary heat shield on the gas tank  Should cost less than $50.

i have a couple butane torches laying around for ummm unrelated reasons. Would I be able to do it myself if I found a good heat shield?

A crack lighter won't get hot enough to melt the screw. It'll need an acetylene torch.

Yes this!!! Screw extractors / ez outs are made from hardened steel so if you break it off inside the bolt then you’ve definitely compounded the problem.

Butane will not get it nearly hot enough to melt steel. However if you soak it with penetrating oil and apply heat from you butane torch it should help free up the bolt.
