I have a 2005 base model five lug tacoma. This is the only video I was able to find on the internet. It's not the best, but it gives you an idea of what is involved. I just did it on my truck. You do have to press out the old bearings and press in the new ones. You'll need to take it somewhere or do it yourself. I bought a 20 ton press at Harbor Freight and it worked well. I also had to buy quite a few other tools, so I didn't save much over having someone else do the job.

Wonder how long that lasted considering the inner race wasn't supported when pounding the hub back in.

Said they used a shop to press bearings in so why not hub also?
Reminds me of my younger days as a gorilla.

What year is your Taco? 2wds (as far as I know) use sealed bearings - not separate bearing/race assemblies. Press hub out, press old sealed bearing out, press new sealed bearing in, press hub back in.

But mine is a 2013, so maybe earlier had separate bearing/races?

Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
The early 2wd 5 lug trucks have the old style tapered wheel bearings .

Not real sure just when they changed might be in 2005 when the models changed.

    Well as always
Job was going much easier than expected
    -didn’t have to separate hub/rotor
-after heat both races came out NP
    -both races seated NP

    assembled/ greased inner bearing
    Tapped in new inner seal
    Brake cleaned rotor
Went to mount on spindle, and the inner bearing gets stuck on spindle (won’t seat….can’t even thread axle nut(2 threads only)
Prt#’s on bearing is the same
    Old bearing slides on
New bearing will take some persuasion

trying to ‘force’ on hub assembly I bent the seal too
    AAAAHHHH

    taking a break
    Bearing in freezer now

    advice?

Call into my race friend with a 67 Camaro
    Figured it out

Appears well worn inner bearing made a 1000’ths of inch lip on spindle
    400grit on spindle surface
Bearing in toaster over at 200
Bent the inner seal as flat as possible (rubber seal wasn’t dmgd)

Hub assembly slid on like a champ!

Reviving a semi old thread; need some help from anyone who has changed wheel bearings on a 2nd gen. Pics are on a donor set of knuckles I plan to use after swapping the new bearings in.

I know the bearing needs to be pressed out, but the outer edge of the bearing (red arrow) is covered by what appears to be a part of the knuckle (highlighted red in 2nd pic).
    IMG_0660.jpg IMG_0661.jpg
Is that highlighted portion a separate piece that also gets pressed out, or is there a special tool required to catch the outer edge of the bearing? From the earlier video, pressing from the spindle will remove most of the bearing but not the outer ring.

Any input would be helpful. Thanks!
