How often do you change your oil? My manual says 10,000 miles?

My taco has only 1000 miles on it so far but I read the manual and it says 10k oil change. Do you guys really go that long in between? I was thinking to change it at 5k myself and let toyotacare do the 10k change.

I thought toyota was at 5k until I bought this truck (19)

The new taco uses synthetic oil which lasts a bit longer.

I change mine every time the light comes on which is around every 5k miles. I don't care what oil it has, I'm not going to run it for 10k miles. I just use the Motorcraft Synthetic blend oil that Ford uses, since I work at a dealership.

4 cylinder is it different for the V6? I know the 0W-20 it uses is pretty good and full synthetic, I just plan to keep my truck forever so... I'd rather make sure it lasts 300k miles. I think I'll still change it a bit sooner, just curious what everyone else here does or will it last 300k miles at 10k drains?

If you're capable of doing oil changes yourself, then mind as well do it every 5k. I've always been doing it at that range and I don't plan on running oil for 2x that long..

Thanks I'll do some better searching (my first search for oil change didn't turn up those threads).

Haha yeah I'm pretty good with tools so I can handle the oil change myself.

5k intervals until the warranty is up, then changing over to 10k intervals.
There's plenty of 4-cly tacoma company trucks running around here doing 10k intervals, all while enduring the abuses of being a company truck.

    .
...^^^... First oil change I do at 1,000 to 2,000 miles ... then about every 5,000 after that with a good filter and a good brand name synthetic oil. Most of my driving is semi-in-town driving too.

It's so easy to change ... I do it myself and I never took my Tacoma back to the dealership for their free oil changes.

... ^^^ ... Get one of these on Amazon or Ebay with the special oil filter wrench and it's fun to change oil again. :)

I had Toyota do it at 5000 miles during my first checkup for piece of mind and to have it documented. Toyota will do it again at 10k for me as part of the Toyota Care. After countless threads and blackstone tests it has been proven that a 10k interval is adequate.
Oil is cheap, do it every 5k if you really want to.

Do whatever your heart desires up until 10K. After that, science and engineering says you should change it.

I typically do my 1st change around 500 miles to get out the breakin particles and for piece of mind. I also can Fluid Film up in there while I'm at it. I wouldn't go more than 5k.

The truck specs were designated by the engineers who created the truck. Simple. Now, if you know more than the engineers then by all means :deadhorse:

It is up to you !
If you choose to , you will be deemed an idiot if you change your oil before 10K . If you want to use oil other than 0W20 you will be deemed an idiot even though 5W30 is oil is OK in other countries with the same engine .
Spending hundreds of $ for new LED lights , or hundreds of $ for a PRO grill , etc. are all OK and admired !!!!!!! . But waste $25 for an early oil change and you are a dope ! If you change your oil early, do not tell anyone on TW ,it may not help , but IT WILL NOT HURT ! :benchpress:

Your right it wont hurt its just throwing money away is all. Ive ran two vehicles past 200k miles on 10k oil changes using mobile 1 and the engine was still nice and shiny inside. I think the smart thing to do is if you want to change every 5k why not have the oil tested the first time to help make up your own mind? Otherwise its just overkill.
