I want to add negative offset rims

I wondering how far they can go before it cause negative effects to performance like steering and cause more wear and tear to parts

    You'll be totally fine.

People go as far as putting 1.25" spacers on 0 offset wheels which is basically like running a -32 offset wheel and they don't seem to change much in terms of wear and tear.

I’m running 0 offset and I have about an inch of poke which is plenty in my opinion. Lots of people run negative offset just be ready to deal with it depending on your tire size.

And -offset means the wheel sticks out further, correct?

I run -10 and I noticed improved handling until I put taller and more aggressive tires. The offset felt more stable but the taller tires give it a little twitch comparatively

So look at it this way. 23’ taco pro stock is ET25, 0 offset is 25 mm outwards, -10 is 35 mm outwards. I’ve seen some at 18 which would be -7 mm outwards from the start of 25. Get it now?!?

Check this out, it helped me decide what offset and it worked out perfect. Zero offset is when the mounting surface is the actual centerline of the wheel.

0 offset on mine..1" poke..ended up putting mud flaps on because it throws water, mud and debris all over the sides.
It does may the truck look better though.

You will very rarely see anything outside of a positive offset on anything rolling out of the factory. I like a 0 or negative offset wheel, but I don't think any vehicles performance is going to be positively effected by a negative offset. You might find some increased stability, or need the clearance for shocks or brakes or whatever with a negative offset or spacer. The stance also looks better IMO with a negative offset wheel, but I don't think an OEM or OEM+ truck is going perform as good as it would with the positive offset that came from the factory. I wouldn't let that stop you from going with a negative offset if that's what you want or need.

There’s geometry in scrub radius that changes when you change offset. The truck is engineered with a specific scub radius. Personally I don’t think a small change will be noticeable but if you are going from +30 to -30 you may be messing with steering characteristics and (allegedly) affecting the loading if the wheel bearing which (allegedly) may affect bearing life. I have no personal proof of these claims but this info is out there. On my truck I used 0 offset and I think the truck is LESS sensitive to road crown, but that could be the tire not offset affecting this.

One thing to consider is your local laws and getting your truck inspected. Some states don't allow tires sticking out past the wheel well. Most law enforcement might look the other way but it could become an issue if you get stopped for another reason. I'm just saying it's something to consider.

At a -18 you will be in range of a cab chop or at the least a crafty alignment if your on stock tires and only running on street. I ran a +1 for 2 years before jumping to a -25 and honestly it has to be the best overall fitment. Not rubbing issues upto a 285 with a good alignment. It's agressive enough to look good but not so far that your flinging rocks down the side of the truck

Besides the issues identified by others concerning the effects of moving your wheels outboard by nearly two inches, you might consider that those wheels have a larger bore diameter. (112.1 mm versus the OEM 106.1)

You will lose the stability of the hub-centric support, and will be relying solely on the nuts to support and centre your wheels.

If you aren’t getting a lot of impact forces on the wheels (mainly on-road driving) then perhaps that’s OK. I’d be curious if other people have gone with oversized bores and can comment?

Negative offset wears out your bearings quicker, but nothing that can’t be dealt with if you check wheel play from time to time.

That’s’ where hubcentric rings come into play for the new wheels from 112 to 106.1
But I do agree on going to far out or negative offset as it will play havoc to wheel bearings.

I initially went with -10 offset wheels but when I switched to 0 offset the truck handled much better.
