The inevitable happened. Someone backed into me while I was parked. Didn’t leave a note or anything. Anyways, examined it, no frame or structural damage. Broke my headlight and dented cracked my front bumper cover.
How much will it cost to fix the bumper cover/paint match?

Armor up. Don't overdo it weight wise. Replace the OEM body mounts up front.

Your going to need a new bumper there. It can be fixed, but plastic welding on bumpers is not the best. I would say your looking at around 1500 for the bumper work, then another 1000 or so for the headlight.

No way?? If you can pull the bumper and headlight yourself you can pickup a used one for between free and $500 easy. There's one local to me right now for $250 get it painted if its not already white, if you find a white one even better. Headlights you're probably looking another $250-500 also easy to find. All in all you should be under a grand up to a high end of $2k. No way it'll cost upwards of 3k unless you have a shop do 100% of the work. But most people with basic hand tools or a drill can do this in roughly an hour or two if you don't move quick.

And if you can't do the work yourself I garuntee you can reach out to your local tacoma groups and someone would be willing to come out and help or do it for you for cheap or a pack of beers and good conversation!

While yea used parts are cheaper, they are not always available or they require more prep time than a new part and can result in poor repairs due to painting over the old paint. Remember, the factory front bumper is textured, so any sanding done to prep the old paint or repair small marks will result in random smooth spots.

Headlight for 250-500, maybe used, but judging by the fact that he has oem led fogs, he probably has oem led headlights. So look at least $700 for that.

So, using OEM new parts at online rates we have

    $273 for bumper cover - $350 retail
    https://parts.toyota.com/p/Toyota__Tacoma/Bumper-Cover-Front/66807641/5211904220.html
    $684 for headlight -$1000 retail
    https://parts.olathetoyota.com/oem-...acwwT3yLx8bDu_kBtz0EpnfB_zHMEifEaAlpiEALw_wcB

Paint work is going to be around $400-500
R&R bumper and headlight labor around $300

Many shops will charge you extra for bringing your own parts as they want to make money on the parts, so add another $100 to the parts cost.

total - ~$1800-$1900. This assumes that all other parts are ok, no broken clips, no misc things needed.

If you can do it yourself, then you probably would not be asking people how much its going to cost to fix.

So I looked guys, and I’m seeing the lower bumper is 200.00, and the lower body mounts look like they are fine. The headlight however is about 700.00. I can replace the headlight myself as I’ve done it for my tail lights.

I’m a bit confused as to why I’m getting comments about it being 2k… I don’t see any damage to suspension, wheel well looks fine, drives straight. I can also put the lower bumper back on after being painted.

I feel 1500.00 would be a good estimate all in? New lower bumper 200.00 + 500.00 paint? + 700 head light.

i dunno,. Trying to decide if a claim is worth it. Have usaa with accident forgiveness but literally
    Never been in an accident.

i thought it would be smack in the middle of that. 700 for the headlight. 200 for a new lower bumper on Toyota parts + painted (500.00 let’s say) would put me at 1500 maybe 1600 after some tax

Haha I initially was pissed then thought the same thing. But it looks like the OEM lower bumper is only like 200.00?

Looks like your lower grill is also broken, possible your fog light bezel has broken clips too and its possible there is damage to the fog light.

If you can find a color matched bumper and install yourself then yeah. But if you have to add paint, it'll be much more than $200.

I'd still go the aftermarket route, I'm just looking for an excuse myself. :D

checked, no damage to fog lights or clips. I have the front bumper off and there is only one clip in total broken, out of the i wanna say 7-8 clips on the passenger side.

funny enough, the headlight still even works lol. Turns and all.

edit: I just messed with the lower grill, popped back into place pretty easily.

haha! I’ve never had to have anything painted. Is it really that much? More than 400-500?

I think what I’m looking for guys is an answer to
1: is this worth a claim? I feel like I could do the replacement of a new painted lower bumper by myself if it was painted already. I’ve replaced and changed out the headlights and taillights before. Idk from what I’ve seen so far the clips look good 1 or two broken total

Why did you remove the bumper to put on the pro grill and skid? Neither of those require removal of the bumper.

But sure you can do it your self, its not terribly hard to do. Just make sure your not forcing things into place or you will end up with more broken clips.

I guess it would depend on where you live. Body shop rates vary from state to state and from county to county. I'm in the bay area and our labor rates here vary from $80/hr to $120/hr and San Francisco is obviously higher. It might be a good time to go aftermarket like Bobby said but your truck your choice. Sorry this happened to you!

I was watching a taco twonz video and was following along as he was doing them. Turns out he was also doing some other things as well that I was not. Wasted about an hour or so or my time!

Always watch the video first, then watch it again while doing the work so you already have an idea what the next step and final result will be.
