How much transmission fluid are you getting out of the pan?

2016 Toyota Tacoma here -- recent transmission drain/fill (multiple) and I am wondering how much you guys are getting out when you drain the pan initially? And the second question... how much are you adding back in (the true amount taking into account how much you had to bleed off during the level adjustment procedure. Thanks in advance.

You’ll get 3.5 to 4 out, that’s pretty normal depending on the current level in there. When I did mine closer to 3.5 came out which was the factory fill. It was cold when I drained it the first time so it wasn’t expanded. I did the 3 x drain, fill, drive a little, and repeat method. I put a little over 3.5 in at each fill for the flush job then for the final fill I put 4 in. When it was up to temp I got a splash out the overflow so it probably took 3.75 or so to get it to level when it was up to temperature.

Here's what I got out of mine (Post #21):
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/transmission-fluid-change.751716/page-2#post-27152514

I put back in one extra Quart (more than came out) so that there would be something to drain out during the 'Level-Check Procedure'.

Curious since I am about to crack 'er open for the first time. Do you just do a drain and fill every X miles and call it good or do you do any sort of flush/drive/etc? My thought was just a drain and fill at 60 then every....30? 40? TBD.

Yeah think every 30 is probably going to be my schedule. Let it go to 60 for the first one but without flushing it I think 30 will probably be best for drain and fill.

    Thanks!

the theory is add new fluid and drive for x miles then do again. i don't know the X miles, maybe others here do. just driving it a short amount, like around the block, i assume. the theory is the new fluid has not returned to the pan yet so when you drain the 2nd time you are still draining the old fluid out before it all blends together. think some do it 3 times. my 2 cents

If you drain and fill it every 15k it will stay clean...

Nope, need to use the temp check procedure by jumping the obd port and moving the shift knob. A YouTube search for the procedure is your friend. The tranny is very sensitive to fluid level and you need the temp exactly right to get the correct level or you’ll have shift issues.

Don’t worry about the first two flushes, just get it close for the short time you’ll drive it. Then let it cool and do the temp check. The level on the last fill is the important one.

Thanks for all the replies. I should have clarified -- I am talking about just draining the fluid via the drain plug (not removing the actual pan). Does this change the 3-3.5 quarts number most of you have been replying with? Just wanted to make sure. Thanks.
