I purchased a 2013 Tacoma last week that came with an ARE DCU contractor cap. I don't really want or need the cap and would like to get rid of it. I've been looking online and these things are selling for prices that are all over the place. I'm just curious what you all think I can get for the cap/what I should list it for.

It's got a ladder rack, a vent on the top, a tool box on the driver's side and it opens on the passenger side. The back window has safety wiring. There are some scuffs in the tool box, but overall it's in really good condition.

    Check local craigslist prices.

What it sells for elsewhere makes no difference in your local market.

Ya, I hear you. I'm currently in DC and have been looking in the general area along the east coast. I haven't seen the exact one I have, but have seen similar caps listed for $300 all the way to $1,300. I priced mine out on one of the seller's websites and new it would cost around $2,200. I think $900 might be a good starting point, but I really have no idea.

You in a hurry to sell? I’d start at $1000, maybe add or best offer. No bites in a week? Lower the price to $900 and so forth. I wouldn’t go below $500. That thing is sweet and personally think it’s worth ~$800.

Just sold an identical ARE cap in similar condition off my recently purchased 2015 Pre Runner in the Dallas, Texas area. Price was lower than hoped for at $650 because it was for the 6 ft. bed, and was harder to sell.

Tip: Assume it has single ignition key BOLT brand locks. If so, rather than replacing locks, you can use your ignition key to get new non-chip keys that will not start your truck made that for next to nothing.

Seems like used caps go for about 1/4 the price of a new one around here

Sold mine 2 years ago,Same cap as yours, best I could get was $500.A guy from California drove all the way too my house,we moved it from truck too his,and he was on his way home, caps hold very little resale value.I lost half what I paid for it,the dealer I bought it from had it on the lot for 4 years! never buying another one.

Contractor caps are expensive new, but not worth much secondhand. I'd start at $1k, but don't expect to get more than $300.

Fiberglass caps usually will go for $1k if they're for the current gen, a gen older would go $500-$800 depending on area.

    No, unfortunately not. I wish!

The 3rd gen bed rails are a bit higher, so the cap sits too high. The 3rd gen bed rails are also a bit narrower. This pic shows it well:

In addition, the tailgate on the 3rd gen is thicker and arched, so you won't get a seal on the tailgate.

I didn't ask too many questions about it at the dealership because the truck was priced well, with or without the cap, and I didn't really want the cap anyway. But it says 2013 on the tag, so I am assuming that is the case. IMG_1058.jpg

You should also get your frame checked. Your truck is more than likely part of the whole rusted frame "recall"

Oh, were you talking about the truck itself? I bought it from a Toyota dealership and it says 2013 on the title, so I have no reason to doubt it's a 2013. It's a base model, so maybe cheaper taillights?

Mine is a 2010 lol... I just did some digging and it looks like the regular cab base has the normal tail lights and the access cab base has the LED's

It looks like the regular cabs have the touchscreen but the access cabs have the normal radio. Weird.
