My guess would be 3.5" plus. I have a 2" lift in the front and rear and have 33's. I would rub for sure if i went up to 35's.

Lift doesn't necessarily help you clear larger tires. The only way to properly clear larger tires is to pull out the coilover and stuff the tire up in there, and cut shit out of the way. I say that because once you hit a bump and the tire gets pushed into the wheel well, lift height goes out the window. Hitting bump stops is hitting bump stops, regardless of ride height

I guess the exception may be a 4" or 6" drop bracket lift which spaces out the bump stop.

285/75/17 is your answer. They are 34 inches, the 1 inch jump from 34 to 35 is not worth the work it takes to be rub free.

I think it really all depends on whether or not you're willing to do some trimming, and what you plan on using it for. Is this a showoff mall crawler, or are you going to hit some trails?

For what it's worth, as an off roader my personal philosophy is you want to lift as little as you can practically get away with. On the trail large lifts will be your worst enemy. Think about it like snapping a pencil - a long pencil is easier to snap than a short one. This is because of leverage, something you get a lot more of with a lift. You also get all these potential roll-over issues that compromise your freedom of selection in what lines you take up a trail.

90yota (EDIT: He beat me to it haha) has 35's on his '16 trdOR with 2.5" of lift and a lot of trimming. IMO that's about perfect. See his build thread: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/90yotas-broverlander-build-work-in-progress.444578/

However much you damn well please, fact is to use them they need to clear at all levels of the suspensions travel. Hell I think they would look awesome at stock height but and inch or two is probably wise.

Quite a bit of trimming to the fenders. about 2in on both the flare and fender. Big CMC and tons of pounding/massaging to the wheel wells and I still scrub at full bump. I got tired of dealing with it so I hope it clears itself someday after a good few hits

Truck looks awesome! A little more work than I would be willing to do so I'll stick with my 33's for now..

The good ole "put some big tires on then go do a few jumps" clearancing method.

This is how the cool kids get those flared pre-runner fenders. I thought everyone knew that? :notsure:
