How much power will I gain with the 4.0 supercharger?

I'm really considering installing a supercharger on my 2008 4.0 Tacoma. I live in the mountains of Colorado above 7,000 ft and am constantly driving up steep grades. I always find my myself wishing for more power so my question is how much more horse power and torque can I expect to get with the supercharger?

Boost, armor, lights, big tires, no savings.
It would give you the potential to make +300HP, but when the unit is now ~$6k and you'll want to add some more to it like fuel pump, smaller puller, intake, headers, heavy clutch its getting hefty. I can not justify the expense, and have not seen anyone install the new magnussen branded supercharger so I think others feel the same.
I say boycott till its <$4K!

If money flows freely go for it, plenty love having it.

Welcome to TW! It is rated at +69hp and +69ft/lbs. Puts the truck at 305hp. You can easily add more by adding the smaller URD 2.85 pulley to spin it faster for higher boost.

Yeah its crazy how the 2nd gen Tacoma s/c is twice the price of the first gen. I love mine, but it came with my truck....I honestly don't know if I'd drop that kind of cash on getting it for myself though. Like mentioned above, it's not just the supercharger you need to worry about getting. You'll need to upgrade your fuel system at least. Headers aren't necessary but they do sound awesome ;)

edit: Just read through a post that @airkewled linked to up above, apparently the 4.0l stock fuel system can handle the s/c without any upgrades, so that's a plus.

I did some rough calculations that should be right but anyone feel free to correct me.

At 7000 feet above sea level, the air is thinner and generally speaking you're only getting around 77% of the power you'd get if you were at sea level. The Toyota SC will give you approximately a 30% boost over stock so you'd be getting the equivalent of stock performance at high altitude. (before you mess around with the boost)

I don't think the money would be worth it since you're not really gaining much in the big picture...

    At a roughly calculated $85/hp, it's not a bargain! ($6,000/70hp)

Losing 700#s of weight would be about the HP equivalent. Not that that is practical or doable, but it does create perspective.

So at some point "they" have to realize we are not going to pay the $6K, right? Has anyone one installed the magnuson yet? The URD is now the more "practical" unit.

Just curious, was the black TRD supercharger for first gens always the same price ($3k)? Or did it start out more expensive and go down over time?

It is because the 2nd gens is a fully integrated system, far more sophisticated than the 1st gen. It runs more boost, utilizes a liquid to air intercooler and replaces all the injectors with proper high flow units rather than using a 7th injector to attempt to make up the deficiency of the stock system. It also does not suffer from the pinging issues like the 1st gen units. So it isn't surprising it costs significantly more.

Edit: I should add the 2nd gen SC used to be cheaper when it was under TRD.

This gets my vote as well.

Like another poster said, the supercharger would only bring back the power that elevation has taken away. Lower gearing is also more cost effective to a blower.... ~ $3000 from what I have seen.

Go find a wrecked 2.7 4x4. It'll have the 4.10 gears you want. Just buy the clamshell and 3rd member. Easy swap and the power you want for maybe $1k if you have a mechanic do the work.

I have the URD stage 2 supercharger and live in Colorado Springs elevation is 6,035 and it halls ass in town. But I also go up the pass to fish lakes in the mountains or visit in laws in Divide and they sit at 9,165. The power is still great at the higher elevations.

Thanks everyone it really doesn't seem like it would be worth it for six grand and everything else I would have to do.

I bought my truck with the supercharger accessory factory badge under the hood. Sadly, no supercharger to be found. :( I bet it would be nice to have with the added weight of expo gear and changing elevation over the course of a trip.

I am between supercharging my Tacoma (currently at 97k miles) and selling it while the market is hot and buying a newer tundra later this year with the 5.7L

For those of you with superchargers- how noticeable is the power gain? Do you have to run premium now?

how many total miles on engine

Ur truck will run better a direct result Ur wallet is lighter

if U hae access to a good mechanic......a very good tune ( they dont always take )......& a dyno

chk engine b4 SC................then of course along the way to optimize the tune

    then after all is said/done

after a few thousand spent.....................hopefully results & expectations reside in same zip code
