Part of the new purchase was several free oil changes every 5000 miles. But I never go more than 3000. My plan is to drain and refill the oil between the free oil changes without changing the filter and let them change the filters.

Any idea how much oil I will need if I just drain it with out fulling the filter?

Do not play games with the engine oil or you will be asking us at 30k at most why it failed.

Filters are too cheap compared to engine replacements. Either change both yourself or let them change it all.

For warranty reasons I wanted it to look like they did all the service work, but no way I want to wait 5000 miles for an oil change.

I do mine every 5k. But if you keep fighting for "only the dealer" or "must be no more than 3134 miles between" others will gladly play with you and extend the thread. I just keep receipts for the oil and filter for the changes and get on with life.

    Good luck.

    You’re all good man.

You do what makes you feel better.
Ignore the other guys. They aren’t the ones paying for your truck.
And they won’t be there to help you fix it either.

How you like the 3rd Gen. You ever miss your old 2nd Gen?

You may want to get an oil analysis every so often for piece of mind.

It’s an oil filter. If installed properly, there is no way to determine who installed it. If you change the oil, change the filter.

With your mentality, I would change the filter before the oil……if I were to buy into that thought process.

The filter is literally $7 at the dealer. Don't skimp out on this. They're not gonna deny warranty for changing your own oil unless you royally screw it up.

They can't deny any warranty issues for you doing your own maintenance. Keep your receipts and log the mileage services were performed. I don't even take my truck to Toyota for the free services.

its 2023, you don't need to change your oil every 3000 miles. It's not the 1970s anymore.

If you want to be extra cautious, change it every 5k with the filter.

The problems these motors have are not from lack of oil changes.

The only thing I’m gonna say is look at the thread about rod knocking after towing uphill. His service department SAID they changed the filter and oil. Trust them if you want….

changing your own oil will not void warranty. having the dealer change it every 5k is perfectly fine. you are over thinking this big time.

I am a very low mileage driver, so I plan to change oil and filter in Spring and Fall, regardless of mileage driven.

Q: does anybody have input about the Dsnaduo stainless oil pan plug shown below?

Your "fill" amount will be exactly equal to your "drain" amount. I'll leave everybody else to comment on the rest, because my brain already hurts.
