I'm thinking about buying some new tires soon and I called a local shop to get some prices, they said if I purchase tires from them they charge $10 dollars per tire for mounting and balancing.

I then asked if I brought in some tires I bought online how much would it cost for mounting and balancing them, they said $35 per tire. That's kinda sounds like a rip off to me. Am I wrong?? Or is the tire shop trying to stick it to me if I don't purchase tires from them?

10$ is a good price per tire but I wouldn't pay more than 20$ a tire which should come with lifetime balancing and rotating, Discount tire is my go to tire shop

    .
I have been using the same shop for the last ten years, they don't care if i bring the tires in, same fee, 20 bucks a pop, what i get for 20? My rims don't get scratched, tires are mounted with the balance dot in the right spot, balancing in spot on and lug nuts are torqued correctly. They have even rebalanced them after i have knocked weights off wheelin, for free. It's now 30 miles out of my way since i moved but i still go back there, it pays to find i good shop and stick with them.

Yeah, I used this shop for years and usually they are very good to me; but sometimes it seems like they just pull prices out of thin air and I thought wow $35 per tire just to mount and balance was a little steep.

Well any shop can definatly have skilled tire men, but do you research on the shop. There are a lot of biased reviews out there so just learn to decipher bad reviews from truthful ones.
